Worked for about a year and was good enough. The AA wireless device (different device than this) has a slew of features and an app. The feature I ended up needing was to scale the android auto interface differently than OEM. It also switches between Apple and Android for those of you who also live in a house divided. Still a good deal for this one if you want a basic device.

Some newer cars don't have wireless android auto only wired AA by plugging in. This is nice to fix that and keeping your phone in your pocket

If you've never used wireless AA before, it may make your phone hot and drain the battery. I had one of these and quit using it for that reason but got a new vehicle with it and the same thing happened. I kept it wired all the time.

Yup. Need to be able to access the device and hit the button on its side to switch devices. NBD if you know this going in and position it where it's accessible. PITA if it is buried in the dash

What are the useful benefits that these things provide, that most people would actually use and appreciate having?

I got a wireless AA for my car because it only had wired AA. With wireless, you can charge your phone with a better charger while still being able to use AA. A lot of cars (most) the chargers aren't very good and when using it for this it can have a null effect on actually charging.

IIRC this was one of the first of these adapters on the market but you can now find a zillion no-name wireless AA adapters for this price on Amazon and even less on AliExpress, anyone know how this one compares to those?

Thank you, for the reply and the feedback. I was mostly curious, though, about what the benefits of having an Android Auto device are? Is it basically just a glorified Bluetooth connection device? Or is there more to it, than that?

Like TD mentioned above, if your vehicle doesn't have wireless AA, it saves you from using the cars proprietary port which doesn't charge very quick and you can use any car charger you like. While it does take 15 to 20 seconds to connect, it is also very convenient that you don't even need to know where your phone is and it automatically connects to AA.

mine has been going strong for a couple of years. Just a heads up though, as someone else mentioned, it can drain your battery and heat up your phone. It did that to my previous phone but not my current one... Not sure if it was because of an update or because I have a new phone. I don't remember at what point my phone stopped getting hot. My current phone is the S24 Ultra

Then buy a cheap Bluetooth speaker for your car, that will definitely enhance that "ratty" car experience.
