Auto defrost works by heating the freezer to defrost....

So food lasts longer and doesn't get freezer burn as quickly if you have a manual defrost freezer that doesn't do that heating cycle.

Shipping for freezers suck. I ordered similar size freezers twice from Home Depot and both times they came severely dented. One time was local delivery and the other time was FedEx.

YW! I think this deal is super slick, especially for a "garage ready" refrigerator -> freezer!

Anytime you order something large to be shipped via FedEx, it is going to be damaged. I would be willing to bet that more than 80% of the freezers bought have damage. Then you have to decide if the dents are bad enough to deal with the hassle of returning. If you want the deal, you may have to accept the fact that it will not be perfect.

I think they're removable wire shelves. I'll try to check this week
The shelves are not removable. They are part of the cooling function.

I have a new 7cu foot version of this brand from sams club. It uses .778kw of electricity a day. About $7 in electricity at my rate. The sams club one has clear bucket shelves that pull out.

Sam's club sells one similar to this on their website for $249 that has glass shelves and drawers And can be a fridge or freezer. For some reason, it has a small separate compartment at top. The description Doesn't really explain that.
I almost ordered the one from Sam's, but noticed it's not the garage-ready type.

Also waiting to hear why you want manual defrost
Not sure if this is what the poster is thinking, but auto defrost adds depth (for the defrosting element) as well as the possibility of having a broken element or defrost timer (both of which have broken in my main refrigerator at one point)

What's the lowest you have seen it at? I just need one more freezer for meat storage. An upright would be perfect for this so I can separate the poultry from the beef.

i have the one from sam's and it is awful as a refrigerator - everything inside is soaking wet, all the drawers have puddles.

i bought when my fridge died as a temp replacement - and move to the garage as a freezer.

based on the humidity issues and that it does not have automatic defrosting i believe i'm going to have to get rid of it and just get a chest freezer.

I was considering buying this in March of this year when it was 120.99. Wish I had now, but at the time I was concerned with the negative reviews of it arriving extremely dented. I have a saved screenshot as proof of the previous price.

The Hamilton Beach at Costco (1466477) is all plastic drawers, and they are all freezer.
A guy returning one at Costco told me that one door was refrigerator. Maybe he was wrong.

I bought this one about a year ago. It has been great and had to defrost it only once, so far.
The shelves are non removable but not an issue for me. It did come with a small dent in the front. Called customer service, and was given 15% back, so I was happy.

In theory chest freezers are more efficient and should cost slightly less to run, but estimated energy usage is roughly the same between this and the 7 cu ft Midea I got from costco.

In practice, the first time you spoil $100+ worth of meat because you had to dig through all the way to the bottom and forgot to put back everything you pulled out to find that last bag of chicken tenders, all those savings are moot. Ask me how I know Wink

I have a really "sweet' extension in chrome that there was a "buzz' about for a while, that showed twenty-five dollary doos off when I went to check out. YMMV!

I bought this one back in November of last year, when it was $198. Had very minor cosmetic damage. Complained to Walmart and they immediately gave me $40 back, no questions asked. I didn't even need to send them pictures.

I keep it in my garage in Orlando, FL, where it's so hot I don't even like going in there. I've had zero issues with it. Some ice started forming pretty quickly at the very top against the door, but it hasn't effected performance. I've cracked off the big pieces a couple times, but that's it. Haven't defrosted yet. Excellent buy. Has probably already paid for itself when stocking up on good deals.

Same. Reviews reflect this clearly so I bought with the expectation of cosmetic damage and that's exactly what I got.

Just assume you're paying this price for a dinged up unit.
