That managed version also comes with the benefit of telling you the speed of the connection (10M, 100M, 1G) from the two LEDs per port, whereas this unmanaged version with one LED per port does not.

Prices are dropping because of 2.5gbps and 10gbps. The managed switch isn't much more than this for those network DIY'ers

Isn't that only true for a managed switch? Unmanaged wouldn't need/have an IP address...
