This Frigidaire upright freezer stands out for convenience and value, with a compact 6.5 cubic foot size that fits well for garage or utility-room use. It is reported to hold temperature well, even through hot summer conditions, and the garage-ready sticker and manual suggest it can handle warmer spaces if ventilation and ambient temperature limits are respected. The main tradeoffs are manual defrost, gradual ice buildup, and some concern about how well it handles true garage extremes. A few reports also mention reliability and electrical quirks, so it is a practical pick if manual upkeep is acceptable.
Shoppers comfortable with occasional upkeep, because ice builds up gradually and the unit needs manual defrosting.
Buyers storing food in a well-ventilated indoor utility space, because the manual calls for temperatures between 60°F and 90°F with the front unobstructed.
Households wanting an upright freezer for easier access, because the vertical layout is more convenient than top-access storage.
Garage owners in hot climates, because it can hold consistent temperatures through peak southern summer in a garage.
Garage setups that get very cold or very hot, because the manual calls for a 60°F to 90°F environment and cold garages can make a non-garage-ready unit stop freezing.
People who want a freezer with automatic defrost, because this model requires manual defrosting and the top section can ice up every few months.
Households needing a freezer that can run unattended for long stretches, because one unit failed after about two months in a garage and spoiled food was not covered.
Homes with sensitive electronics on the same circuit, because the compressor cycle can make TVs flicker and speakers pop.

Mine died after about 2 mo. of usage, it was in the garage. The warranty process was very slow and cumbersome, and it did not cover any of the spoiled food either. I had at least $200 worth of meat that went spoiled. I went with a different brand for replacement after my experience.
These are garage ready freezers and in my experience does a good job of maintaining consistent temperature even in peak southern summer. Ice will build up gradually and it will require a manual defrosting eventually, but I have not done that yet. I purchased it for around $210 and for the money it is a good deal.

Anything else other than Ambient temperature?
The reason a freezer may shut-off is because the thermostat is "Fooled" into thinking its cold enough inside the freezer That's when it shuts off.
So, if the freezer is exposed to say -3F and the freezer is set to zero degrees F, it will stop freezing (Operating the compressor etc)So, the frozen food may thaw and spoil.
Most garages don't get down to zero degrees F anyway.
Most freezers are set to below zero F, so there is no issue even if it's not labeled "Garage ready".
When it's winter and 15F outside my home, It's usually 30F or higher in my garage. So, my freezer works fine.
The only time there could be an issue is if a Refridgerator isn't Garage ready. The thermostat is usually set just above 32F. So, if the Garage temp gets down to say below that temp..say 32 degrees, the thermostat thinks the fridge is cold enough, so it stops refrigerating and the food will spoil over a period of time.
Hope this helps.
