This Frigidaire upright freezer stands out for convenience and value, with a compact 6.5 cubic foot size that fits well for garage or utility-room use. It is reported to hold temperature well, even through hot summer conditions, and the garage-ready sticker and manual suggest it can handle warmer spaces if ventilation and ambient temperature limits are respected. The main tradeoffs are manual defrost, gradual ice buildup, and some concern about how well it handles true garage extremes. A few reports also mention reliability and electrical quirks, so it is a practical pick if manual upkeep is acceptable.
Common Questions (4)
The unit is marketed with a garage-ready sticker in the photos, but the manual only specifies operation in a well-ventilated area above 60°F and below 90°F, protected from wind, rain, and water spray. That means it can work in some garages, but it is not rated for extreme cold or heat.
Yes, it is manual defrost, and ice buildup is expected over time. One owner reports needing defrosting about every three months, while another says it can run for a long time in a garage before eventually needing a manual defrost.
It has been reported to hold a consistent temperature in a garage even during peak southern summer. The manual still limits installation to a ventilated space between 60°F and 90°F, so performance depends on staying within that range.
Early reports say it works well, but there is also a report of the unit dying after about two months in a garage. That failure led to a slow warranty process and spoiled food not being covered.

Mine died after about 2 mo. of usage, it was in the garage. The warranty process was very slow and cumbersome, and it did not cover any of the spoiled food either. I had at least $200 worth of meat that went spoiled. I went with a different brand for replacement after my experience.
These are garage ready freezers and in my experience does a good job of maintaining consistent temperature even in peak southern summer. Ice will build up gradually and it will require a manual defrosting eventually, but I have not done that yet. I purchased it for around $210 and for the money it is a good deal.

Anything else other than Ambient temperature?
The reason a freezer may shut-off is because the thermostat is "Fooled" into thinking its cold enough inside the freezer That's when it shuts off.
So, if the freezer is exposed to say -3F and the freezer is set to zero degrees F, it will stop freezing (Operating the compressor etc)So, the frozen food may thaw and spoil.
Most garages don't get down to zero degrees F anyway.
Most freezers are set to below zero F, so there is no issue even if it's not labeled "Garage ready".
When it's winter and 15F outside my home, It's usually 30F or higher in my garage. So, my freezer works fine.
The only time there could be an issue is if a Refridgerator isn't Garage ready. The thermostat is usually set just above 32F. So, if the Garage temp gets down to say below that temp..say 32 degrees, the thermostat thinks the fridge is cold enough, so it stops refrigerating and the food will spoil over a period of time.
Hope this helps.
