If you need one of these, this is a buy now, think later kind of deal. Best receiver for the money for a 5.2.4 maxed out setup IMO.

I've been sitting on the fence forever for a new AVR, this finally made me pull the trigger. Thanks.

I love my rz30. So glad I got it. Dirac calibration sounds great after doing the setup.
Did you pay for the $300 bass add-on software? I just have one sub so didn't know if it was needed or worth it.

Wow you clearly don't shop around.vomit
As far as I can tell, the least expensive Denon AVR in the current lineup that can do 100W per channel @ 8 ohms is the X3800H which is $1799 at most major retailers. There are older ones and refurbs for less for sure, but I dunno where you can even get the X3700H for example nowadays.

Tempting. I have been out of the game for a while and got rusty on my specs. I have been using a Yamaha V685 for the past 6-years. I run a 5.2.2 setup. I don't think the independent sub outs are a huge selling point as my subs are equal distance apart. I am trying to think if there are other features I am truly missing? I in more of the camp that a speaker upgrade will sound better than what a receiver will do?

Pretty good deal. I think you're paying double this for anything 100W per channel from Denon. I'm enjoying its baby brother, the TX-SR494, and will come for something like this next year.
To be fair Denon doesn't make an equivalent.
The closest(3800) offers a bit more features for the $400 or so extra cost.

If you don't need those extra features or prefer Denon, yes this is a solid deal for what you get.

For 9 channels only is the extra $200 with the price for the older, but more powerful rz50 in your opinion?
For only 9 channels, In my experience, no not really.
Generally speaking, the extra power is a minimal advantage in real world use.

I've set this up with a 9 channel Primes & drove them with no problem at average listening levels.

Imo I would spend the extra $200 on DLBC or improving a weak link speaker(s) if you have one.

It depends.
The included Dirac(DL) doesn't offer Dirac subwoofer/bass correction.
It uses the AVR bass management to calculate & include it in the calibration.

Dirac usually offers 20% sale around BF & gives you 30 days return window.

Sale price vs MSRP is not a fair comparison.

Past sales on the 3800 are not very common nowadays for a few reasons.
One being, it offers pretty much all the features the RZ70 does and likely what the new RZ71 will.

Are you implying you can somehow use the license to calibrate, return it, and the calibration remains? It seems like a big flaw.

This is the lowest price I have seen, and I've been looking for quite a while at this one. A solid receiver!

Any Dirac license is refundable but then you will lose those calibrations as the filter will no longer work in your AVR. The calibrations are only valid as a "paid" customer.

You can keep thinking that but the 3800 is a different animal than even anything Onkyo has right now (what PAC AVR has 4 SW outputs and can do Dirac ART currently?). If none of the extra features from the 3800 interests you, just pay for what you need. I honestly haven't come across too many audiophiles on SD and certainly not many who care about ART!

OK. That makes more sense, but at least the return policy let's you decide if it's worth keeping.
