These "XR" PowerStack batteries are nothing but a gimmick!
Pouch cells are prone to swelling, and now DeWalt is abandoning this junk!
I don't care what type of technology it is, If it's more than $10 per ah, it is NOT a deal!

They are not abandoning all the powerstack batteries. I believe just the 5.0 with all the problems.

I think as of now, they are planning to keep the 1.7ah battery around.
At least until they start having mass swelling/case splitting Cataclysm!

:
At its "Built Black and Yellow" event, DeWalt announced a major rebrand of its 20V Max battery lineup to simplify how users choose batteries. Moving forward, the individual "Powerstack" and "Powerpack" logos are being phased out, and all premium tier batteries are being unified under the XR name.
1. The Technology Stays, the Names Change
The underlying battery engineering isn't disappearing; DeWalt is just changing the text on the plastic shell.
2. The 5.0Ah Powerstack Twist
While the compact pouch-cell batteries (like the 1.7Ah) will continue under the XR name for smaller form-factor tools, the 5.0Ah Powerstack battery is being explicitly replaced. DeWalt is phasing out the 5.0Ah pouch-cell design in favor of a brand-new 5.0Ah Tabless XR battery.
3. What This Means For Buyers
Because both pouch and tabless batteries will now use identical "XR" branding, users will have to pay closer attention to model numbers to know exactly what they are purchasing
If this is true, DeWalt is ran by some morons!
Lets simplify battery names to not confuse customers, so we're going to put whatever technology inside, give new part numbers and call them all XR.
F'ing Clowns!
