Does it go straight into the beer and then the beer is filtered? Or is there some sort of large mesh basket or netting?

it goes pre-filter... it gets added when the beer is about at the end of fermentation(yeast is dumped, tank is capped)... we add them into a grundy which we add a thick layer of co2 and is a constant recirc from the tank to the grundy.... we pull from the racking port on the side then pump it directly from the bottom... keep a constant flow going in and out of the grundy... then we pour them directly into the grundy and the hops get pumped into the tank...after the dry hop, we recirc the tank to mix in the hops every 12 hours for 36 hours...then chill it for 4-5 days then it goes to filtering.

this is a grundy, normally where the bottom port is there is a inlet for a carb stone about in the middle and just above that is another inlet that we use to bring the beer in... some small brewpubs use these things as serving vessels or as bright tanks...they are usually 3.45bbl

the brewery i might be going to might do a beer like that, but it would be small batch and only as growler fills... they even made a hopless beer...

Just tasted my first barleywine last night after about 3 months in secondary. Very impressed for my first one. A bit dry at 1.014. But, it still tastes a little malty and is 9.7%.

I also brewed what I call an IDA (India Dark Ale). Ended up at 1.012 and 8.4%. I just put the dry hop in last night. Amarillo and Cent leaf. I finally got my efficiency up. I was 73% on this brew. If I keep this up, I can lower my base grain a little.

What a great Christmas gift. My mother in law bought me one of these:

www.stirstarters.com

The guy guarantees it for life. I have it swirling from Belgian Wit yeast right now. I'm brewing a Wit for my wife tomorrow.
