Forget the haters! My wife and her aunt have something similar. If the performance is the same, It's a great deal for less tech-savy uses, like home study, or for media consumption. Windows 10 works just fine once you switch out of S mode. Streaming services work, Zoom works, light browsing works (seen the wife with 10 tabs open in Chrome and Edge just fine). They pay bills, do online shopping, write emails - all that stuff. The kids play Roblox and Minecraft. Wife hooks up to the TV to do her workouts. The specs are all low-end, but it is $150.

So what are the cons? It's not thin, nor light. The camera is hot garbage to me, but the wife uses it for Zoom and hasn't complained yet, so there's that. The screen is ... meh. I mean, our phones have better screens, and I'll bet a $150 phone might as well. At first I was concerned about the 4GB of ram, but honestly, it hasn't been a problem YET. I'm sure, in the future we'll have to revisit this. I would like an ethernet jack, but it's hard to tell because they only use them in the house and we have good wi-fi. If we go on vacation, it might be a different story. Also, 128GB of storage is nothing these days. You will run out fast if you have a lot of media. But this problem isn't exclusive to this particular model, as the majority of laptops are in the same boat. So add the cost of external storage (SD card, external drive, cloud) to the overall price. Finally, the battery life is not good. You'll have to pay more to start getting decent longevity.

I'm telling you guys. Avoid these lower end Lenovo laptops. Already purchased and returned two similar models. RAM is soldered and cannot be upgraded. Even running basic tasks on Windows 10 is hard for these to handle, especially with only 4GB of RAM.

Remember to press F2 to go into bios to disable the lid open power on and uninstall various Lenovo softwares.
Heh, I forgot I could do this in BIOS.

Just got an in-stock notification and it looks like they still have some in stock.

Also, the second one I ordered yesterday has already shipped and is supposed to arrive today. That's pretty quick shipping!

Heh, I forgot I could do this in BIOS. Here's what I did to disable the lid open function instead:

1 - Open PowerShell and run this command to add the "Lid Open" options to the Power Settings:
powercfg -attributes SUB_BUTTONS 99ff10e7-23b1-4c07-a9d1-5c3206d741b4 -ATTRIB_HIDE

2 - Then change the Lid Open settings via: Control Panel > Power Options > Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Power Buttons And Lid > Lid Open Action...
...then change both On Battery and Plugged In to "Do Nothing". Click Apply, then OK your way out.

......which, it turns out, gets over-ridden by the BIOS setting. Lol.
In response to 2nd solution, after you reboot and boot into windows only happens when windows took over. I did it and tried several times hooked up to my external display so my mom could use it as a regular computer. So I no longer in possession which I woke up like mid of the night ordering.

Can the laptop take NVme 2280 drive other than 2242 drive? It seems has the slot hole.

I can confirm the laptop will accept the 2280 size drives because I upgrade my NVMe drive to a 500GB drive yesterday (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1)

Just note that when removing the old drive, you need to not only remove the screw that holds the card down, you must also unscrew and move the "socket" the screw goes into from the 2242 position to the 2480 position before installing the new 2280 drive. Other than that, it's very easy.

And don't buy the old SAta m.2 drive. I have an old 2280 Sata (not NVme) and the bios does not detect it.

Thanks. Really curious to see what the "socket" is.

The "socket" screws into the hold in the motherboard and then the screw that holds the drive down screws into the socket. The end of the drive is the held between the screw and the socket.

The socket is really just like a short standoff bolt, but you need to move it before installing he longer drive because if you don't, it will press against the middle of the drive and the original screw isn't long enough to reach the motherboard w/o it.

It should be pretty obvious once you open it up and start removing the existing NVMe drive.

This deal may be expired but there are still some out there. Went to pick up a Lenovo Chromebook yesterday and the assistant scanned one of these at 149. I bought the Chromebook but went back today and picked this up. Brickseek shows there may be a few others out there at this price too. Definitely not a high end laptop but not a bad deal for something cheap to tote around at that price.

I lucked into finding one in-store yesterday. Wasn't listed on the website or brickseek.

Dropped in a 8gb stick of ram in mine and a 500gb nvme drive and works great. They were spare parts from other laptops I've upgraded for people so it didn't cost me anything out of pocket. Big Grin

Chromebook can't officially play Minecraft though, which is essential for our purchase haha.
Many do have Beta Linux support though and it looks like java is available so there may be a path (I haven't tried it yet though).

I searched Amazon and couldn't find any 4GB 2666MHz DDR4 SO-DIMM for $11, could you please post the link ?

Edit: just found it. Is this the one you bought for $11.95,

https://www.amazon.com/Ramaxel-RM...055&sr=8-1
Confirmed this $11.95 2666mhz ram works. Hope you had ordered it. Sold out fast once you post the link.

The startup is definitely faster after putting the ram in.

Hopefully no BSOD since these cheap ram tends to have higher failure rate.

That's why need to do burn in to test it out especially for these type of weird rams.

I don't understand how people are trying to pimp out this cheap $150 starter laptop. This type of laptop is a perfect starter laptop for little kids or for anyone who want to use it purely as a second computer aside from their primary one. At the end, the CPU is bad and it won't even handle most of what we do or use it for. This at the very best is a backup computer or a starter computer.

Even if you are cheap on the initial price, but are willing to make upgrades later, there's always financing options or just straight up by a slighter high end one. And I'm not talking about $1,000 ones, but $300-500 range and trust me, there are plenty of those options with great CPU, RAM, webcam, etc.

It's like trying to pimp out your newly bought base honda civic with you switching out the LEDs headlights, add a spoiler, switch out rims, add in sport seats, etc. At the end, it's still a honda civic. It's still going to be a basic engine that gives you subpar performance. Just buy a better car.

I hope no one takes offense by this post. I just hope people aren't going to treat this computer as like the computer they are going to use for the next 3-5 years.
On my case:
2 $150 and used 2x256gb nvme leftover including $47 of 2x8gb , which are total is 347 plus taxes.

Due to virtual academy for whole semester/yearly, We borrow chromebook from school and my kids complain on how slow chromebook while doing goggle meet and google class.

Long short story. They do not complain anymore...

Speaking of the cam, it is the same quality with loaned chromebook from school.

$347 total instead of 299 i3. I prefer. This entry level laptop. My kids are happy. I am happy too😁

Notes
Minimally you have to install 8gb ram. Seeing on average 8gb of 12gb used overall. Google chrome mostly use..
Default 4g is to low.....make the system crawling slow....
