I've never heard of an adapter to run an NVMe drive on a SATA connector. You may be thinking of adapters for SATA m2 drives. There are different interfaces available for the m2 form factor. NVMe drives will not work with those adapters. Get a PCIe adapter (make sure your mainboard supports booting from NVMe if you want that) or get a USB3 adapter (can be faster than SATA but slower than PCIe).
You're 100% right. Thanks for pointing that out!

That would be cool if it had everything you wanted. The PS5 Nvme controller is custom, and probably doesn't support all the functionality a normal NVMe drive. It's like a fast car without all the seat belts and air bags.
Wait do you mean I am screwed if I already purchased this and wait for sony to unlock ps5 storage?

fair warning: USB is a mess. going this route, you want USB 3.1 gen 2, 10Gbit/sec signalling rate. much more typical is 5Gbit/sec signalling rate.

It's not easy or obvious, they constantly rename, etc. It can be made to work but your best bet is straight to PCIe lanes.

I really hope your joking. The nvme markers are loving the ambitiousness of the ps5 supported drive. People will keep buying discounted drives hoping that one day they will work in their ps5s.

I really don't know how this could work in that situation. Isn't the ps5 drive one of its best features? I believe it's still much faster than anything else on the market. Supporting this one for games would most likely handicap it.

I bet Sony is testing drives to see which one they were get to work best with their built in drives to keep the speed from suffering. They'll tell us when and if they get one working. The price on the first drive will shoot up. But getting ahead of the curve and buying the wrong things could cost you more.

I don't think so. The 980 Pro is pretty much regarded as the fastest from what I've seen so far.
For example: (first google result from search SN850 vs 980 Pro)

Too funny. I love Samsung but the meaning or intention behind their discounts has become farcical.
The intention is to lock in customer loyalty. It's why companies that mostly sell adult (as in age) products look for ways to market to youngsters. They want to be the default choice when they're older and spendier.

the 980 pro has SLC caching issues running at <1gb/s for many users. its all over the tech forums just google it. Samsung is silent on the matter (last time i checked).
Main reason why Samsung is placing this on sale. If this was the fastest and without any issues whatsoever, it wouldn't be 315.

That site you linked mostly exists to get a top Google result and make money off affiliate links.

Here's a real review site: https://www.anandtech.com/bench/p...27?vs=2732

They trade blows on response time, with the 980 Pro being a little better. However the SN850 is better on data transfer rates in both real world benchmarks and your standard benchmarks, sometimes by a little and sometimes by a lot.

The SN850 is a faster drive.

The Western Digital WD Black SN850 has clearly established itself as a premium consumer SSD. It trades the lead with the Samsung 980 PRO on many tests but beats Samsung more often than not, making the WD Black SN850 the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSD we have tested so far.

Western Digital was slow to get into the NVMe game and at times it has seemed like they weren't trying very hard to go after the high end. But they're definitely serious contenders now. The high-end consumer SSD market is no longer just Samsung and the runners-up.

Overall the SN850 does have a few performance quirks, but no serious weaknesses to worry about. The SN850 has a bigger and faster SLC cache than most of the competition and generally seems better-optimized for client workloads than the 980 PRO.

Pretty sure you aren't going to be able to buy just any SSD. It'll be packaged just like the Microsoft one is. Specifically for PS5 use only with a proprietary interface.

Another Sony "promised feature" , "future update." I got my PS5 in November and can only install a few of my games that I played on PS4. Nothing against consoles but I'm done with all the hype for "deliver later" features. Same goes for the x900.

Going forward I will only spend my money on a product if it has a desired feature available on the day I depart with my hard earned cash.

This drive is only for a select few. $300+ for 2TB? I'm sitting here SMH thinking about anyone considering this for their PS5.
