Loving all the comments like "lol a new CPU is coming next year that's way better." No kidding? That's how CPUs have worked for thirty years. AMD is firing on all cylinders and so the perf jumps are impressive, but Weird Al's "It's All About The Pentiums" more or less applies here.

This is essentially the best CPU you can buy today. If you need a computer today and not in 2022, then this is the top. If you don't need a computer today, obviously things are only getting better. (Well, maybe not on the Intel side of the fence.)
Sometimes I think we don't give enough credit to the magic they pull in the various cpu labs. The constant ability to get even more performance out of something so miniscule is insane.
this should improve my youtube and AOL email experience

Because SD put this on the front page. If it makes the front page people tend to vote it up even if the deal (or stock find) isn't very good.

Yep, there's the FP sheep

Don't buy those chips when they come out either, I'm sure something else will be right around the corner
IKR, people keep saying 'wait for the new one to come out". with technology there will always be a new one coming out and the waiting never ends.

AMD already announced 3d v-cache CPUs
3D v-cache?? Intel be like:
That deserves a whole new cpu gen with fewer cores and lower clocks

My 3900X has been very stable except for perhaps some crashes I got which I think were due to video driver bugs but that hasn't happened in awhile so I think they fixed it.

If you are overclocking your CPU or RAM then stop overclocking and see if it stops crashing. Also, update your BIOS as that can sometimes improve stability.
I have multiple systems in a server rack, and the Intels have been solid although they generate more heat. The AMD's are pretty solid too, with the exception of the 3970x having crashed twice in one week a few weeks ago. Server logs point to hardware failure. Lessen learned.. mission critical server stuff is better with an Intel, but for 99.9999% of consumers, AMD is perfectly reliable.

Am I just not seeing what everybody is seeing? The CPU is listed at $799.00 and on sale for $799, what is the difference? I am not impressed! $800 for a chip! WTF?

If you can find a 5900x for $550 you will probably be just as happy and not notice the difference (12 cores on the 5900x vs 16 cores on the 5950x). The $250 can be better applied to other components or software, especially if your primary use case is video games.

It's because this is the best and very powerful chip on the market.. You can instead go with 5600x for $280 if that's what is enough for you

Does Amazon charge you now and sit on and keep your money (and make interest) or do they charge when it ships? I also assume you have until the delivery date to cancel it if you change your mind....correct?

I feel manufacturers are enjoying the chip "shortage"
Probably both a yes and no. They're stuck at msrp. Maybe a slight price increase but that's it. On their side, it's pushing out and selling as many products for more profit. Not enough production means less profit. Although they are always sure someone will buy their stuff immediately the moment they put it in stock. It's the scalpers that are getting rich by padding so much to the base price.

16 cores is just too much. For most people, you are buying something that you don't need. For me, I brought a 6 core 2600x for $80 last year at microcenter it is good enough for me.

i believe they won't charge until they ship it. you can cancel before it ships. during shipping, you can no longer modify your order. you will have to wait to receive it then return it. i've been able to return things once received because i changed my mind - they haven't charged me any return shipping fees.
