I know a lot of people talk smack about the S, but man, I love mine, I'm not one to pixel count, so as long as the game I'm playing is 1080p, I'm fine, looks great on my LG CX, especially when the games are still kicking at 60fps or better.
Also travels well, I'm able to throw it in my bag next to my laptop when I travel and it's great for hotel downtime.
I have no problem with the S's performance. If that were the only difference, I'd already own one. My problem is the measly storage. 512GB, only 364GB left after OS. When a lot of AAA games run over 100GB, that's gonna fill up real quick. You can remedy this by getting a storage expansion card, but that brings the total cost to more than the Series X.
If you're a very casual gamer who only plays one or two games at a time, the Series S may be a good buy. But I'm pretty casual, don't have a ton of games, and I've been struggling with the 500GB storage limit on my PS4 for a couple years now. It can only be worse with newer games.
Its Costco. They are a warehouse retailer. They have paid members and they purchase in bulk. People pay membership fees for access to prices below MSRP. Those membership fees help pay for things being sold under MSRP.

Statement doesn't even make sense. Even if you have a 4K tv if the broadcasts are only in HD or your stream drops to HD you will be watching in HD. And many people still watch programs in HD regardless of whether they use a 4K tv or not. Further an increase in sales does not show the percentage of households with 4K TVs. The same household could by 4 4K TVs. No doubt the number is climbing but that's not evidence that most people have a 4K tv nor is it anything close to evidence that those with a 4K are consuming nothing but 4K content. Also when you pull statistics learn how to actually analyze them, nothing you pulled supports your actual argument. As the other guy said you are super triggered. Chill out.
Didn't claim that the majority have 4K TVs; the point is that they are readily available and the trend is upward - hardware and streaming services. This is an XBOX post - the Series X is next gen. 4K TVs can be found for cheap. Sure, they will sell a lot of Series S consoles, but it's not the way of the future. I'm not arguing that many will buy it; it's simple economics. People are looking for a slick deal. I'd expect that you can find a great deal on DVD players too! How's your Zune working?
That was the point the other guy was making. So your post wasn't even on topic then? Sure, in that case I suppose you both could be right so what are you arguing for? I don't nor have I ever owned a Zune but if I have tech that's old but still works well why do I need to get rid of it?

You'd have to read the whole thread. I agree - there really isn't anything to argue here. I feel like people want to defend the system marketed toward the masses because they can't get a Series X. Series X > Series S. And, visually the last gen Xbox One X looked better than the new Series S. The infrastructure exists to support Series X gaming. If it was my choice, I would wait for the better gaming console to be in stock than to settle for the cheaper and now available option... I've played both and Series S does not visually appear next gen to me. My opinion.

That's fair. I don't have a strong opinion either way. I personally would lean your way and just get the better one when it's available but I can see why some people might have reasons to get the cheaper one. Price definitely being one of those factors.
Does anyone know of a good aftermarket place to sell one of these? I had been waiting for the X version forever and one of these became available and so I got it. The next week I actually was able to finally get an X out of luck and so I have this S version and I guess I was already out of the two week return period at Gamestop. if anyone is in need of one of these I will sell it for $300 even. If you know of a way to prove that we are not scamming each other also that would be cool because i have never sold anything online. Anyways no I am not a not trying to scam anyone just trying to be helpful and my significant other is getting upset that there are two new X boxes here.
Why would anyone give you msrp for a used console, much less when you can buy a brand new one from Costco right now for 290? You're off your rocker.
That's not how free speech in a public setting works. If you'd like censorship, move over to SlickDeals China.
It's not about free speech; it's about monopolizing the discussion and always having to have the last word. The Series S is not as good as the Series X, we get it. What else do you have to say of any value here? [Rhetorical question, but I know you'll have to fire back because that's who you are. Me, I'm done.]

Do you think $10 off an already cheap console is a slick deal?
I still enjoy my original modded Xbox, I have hundreds of games on its 2tb hdd, my kids love it too, not ready to introduce them to my 360, or my Xbox one x, that's for big daddy.
It sure would be nice if these could be hacked to become x86 PCs.
Was thinking the same thing. Hack. Maybe should include a lite desktop and office 365 with ultimate game pass. It would practically sell itself. Like Sony including DVD player in ps2.
I'll just add my two cents on the debate, and say I love the Series S coming from a X1 S, and I play it on a 4K TCL Roku TV along with the Switch, PS4 slim, and Shield TV pro. I've been all digital since the end of 7th generation anyhow, so the lack of a optical drive does not bother me. If anything, that's a plus as I love the relatively small size of the console. Lack of true 4K does not bother me either seeing how I still watch/play 1080p content all of the time otherwise. As for the storage issue that's a big problem I admit, and if they ever release a cheaper digital version of the X like Sony did with the PS5 I'm on board, but in the meantime I have a 4TB portable hard drive, and fine with using it for cold storage for S/X games that don't run off it.

I certainly have! It is timeless!

I bought it a few days ago, but returned it and bought an X instead.
