Debating this or waiting until BF. It's not urgent, and surely BF will give 15% or more. I'd like to buy from a retailer other than Newegg, too.

yeah i wish amazon or best buy would price match, they have stuck at $220 MSRP for a while. Its also a bummer Microsoft/Seagate haven't put out a 2TB version, you know its coming.

Between Microsoft Flight Sim (100 gigs), Forza Horizon 5 (100?), Halo Infinite, and whatever else you may be playing my storage space is getting tight. I do have a USB drive I move games to and it can play non series X only games so I don't feel an urgency.

black friday may indeed be a great time to buy if Seagate releases a 2TB drive and drives down the price of 1TB, but I dunno if thats happening this year.

Yeah, a 2TB would be nice.

I already have a 10TB external that stores all my games (it's my game repository). And a 1TB Seagate expansion card which is nearly fully. I move games back and forth between the HDD and the SSD since the internal SSD and expansion cards are for games I always play and the HDD is for games I occasionally play.

The way Microsoft probably thinks of it is these Seagate expansion cards are the modern cartridge. You just swap between them when you want to change games.

Just wait until BF and start doing MS Rewards. Between the console rewards app (generally as easy as clicking a few buttons, or grabbing an easy achievement in some game), game pass quests and the daily brower stuff (which takes like 5-10 minutes) you could easily knock $50 off of the price with MS gift cards and buy the expansion card directly from MS store.

Seagate has a year contract to make those cards so Microsoft had something available at launch. That year is up soon, 3rd party manufacturers will be able to start making their own expansion cards.

I'm convinced that MS is subsidizing Seagate to make these which is why you don't see them from other manufacturers. I think they did the math and they know that these kinds of high performance drives aren't profitable yet, but will be in the future so they built in the expandability feature now knowing that EVENTUALLY other manufacturers will jump on board with other size cards when the cost to make them comes down some.

However they still needed to provide the option at launch so they partnered with Seagate to give launch customers the option.

Honestly, I'll wait for adapters. It'll be fine. I don't need to keep games I've already finished sitting on my SSD anyway.

Have SSD and M.2 externals hooked up and they work fine. Only installed X/S games on the internal and everything else on the externals.
I am sure the Storage Expansion Card is the better option but could not justify the cost since I had the parts in stock for 2TBs of high speed storage.

The specs for these are akin to a gen 3 drive which currently cost about half of this deal. I'm confident both Seagate and Microsoft are profiting

Exactly. It's gen 4 but on X2 not X4. Top speeds are similar to Gen 3 but I think it might have a higher floor. Either way they are making a killing 8n these. I'd say around $160 would be a fair price.

Yeah u can buy another no licensed ssd card and move the files quicker. HDD to Ssd takes a long time

I know target price matches if you contact them through chat. Hopefully they grant the price from Newegg
