I was about to upgrade my network to WiFi 6 a few months back and WiFi 6e started hitting the shelves. I decided to wait as I don't necessarily need the bump to 6 but future proofing would be nice. The more traction 6e gets the cheaper 6 will become

I tried doing DFS but I must get periodic interference / channel switching. It's great when it works but I had to go back to auto channels to keep xcloud running smooth.
Range hasn't been improve too much mostly speed has been the talk. Although range may vary per router as usual. If range is your only concern mesh is the way to go

I just picked up a pair of the ASUS Zen ET8 to try
Higher frequency = more bandwidth but worse range
my 5yo ac3100 with merlin hosts two dozen devices in a 2200sqft space like a champ,
so i'd rather spend this $160 on more HDD's for my NAS till 6e is out and settles down.
just look at 5G on USA cell phones - it's low band trash every budget phone has now.
don't get suckered into a meaningless upgrade cycle just to give these lazy pigs profit
and reward their meaningless marketing.

I have the same router as an AIMesh node (MoCA backhaul) and also get 450-500 Mbps on my WiFi 5 Pixel phone. From what I've read, 6e is good for the same room as your router but that's it. 500 Mbps is plenty for most people.
Have only tried DD WRT but I see lot of folks mentioning merlin. What would be the typical use case for merlin? More customization options?
