I own this with a Dolby Vision enabled LG OLED TV. Despite the lack of DV, it's a great player and the picture from a disc appears superior to any Dolby Vision 4K streaming content I've encountered. So with or without Dolby Vision, it's gorgeous. As an added plus, if you use it to listen to CDs or blu ray audio, the sound is excellent.

Tempting to buy for my Bedroom TV that I never watch movies on. But lack of DV has me wavering.

The UB420 and UB820 are both amazing players. If you want Dolby Vision though you have to get the more expensive player. I have a Samsung TV which doesn't support Dolby Vision so I got the 420 for my setup.

Hmm, debating if I need a disk player - what is the purpose of DV if the BR disks are not mastered in DV ? I have not purchased any BRs recently, but probably have several dozens unopened Smilie that I may decide to re-watch. I like Planet Earth 2 in 4k

Walmart also has a similar deal same price, but it's a Sony UBP-X700. Which is I think, it has better additional specs :

No, you don't have to spend more to get DV. There's a Sony player (I have it, but don't recommend it since it locks up or skips sometimes - think it's more of an overheating issue) and there's a LG one too. In hindsight I should've went with the LG one.

I bought this UB420 Open Box Like New from Best Buy last fall for $110. Works great but I've only used it for 3 or 4 4K movies. Lack of DV is irrelevant for how rarely I use it and I tend to watch more HD Blu Rays on it. I think I only purchased 1 or 2 4K discs in 2021.

I do have a 5 year old LG player with DV connected to my LG OLED. Pic looks great but I bet I've only played that one a half dozen times this year with 4K discs. Used it more in the previous years.

Dolby Vision is great on a player if you use it often and buy 4K DV discs. My usage seems to be less and less over the years and I buy fewer and fewer new discs.
