Samsung makes about 10 different 70" TVs. A few are better than this and a bunch are worse. This is a great set for the price.
Lol I'm not sure you're aware of how ironic this statement is (the Vast majority of reviewers/guides praise this model). Hisense is actually swinging for the fences with this offering to gain more market share over the likes of Samsung/Sony/lg who have all faltered in recent years for their tech offerings per price point. In other words this set is a steal for sub 1k compared to a Samsung QN90A for similar or even better performance in some areas.

Is the 55" a good deal at $849? This is the TV I wanted for Christmas but don't think I have room for a 65" without buying all new furniture.. don't remember what the 55" is usually priced at.
I find nothing wrong with the 55U8G Hisense.
The so called "ghosting " things is really not an issue. This size has more than adequate LED zones.
If you don't want a humongous 65" and it would be too large in your room the 55" has superb picture quality.
If you buy it at Best Buy or even Amazon, returning is easy if you with to change your mind.
Bigger is not necessarily better.
The 65" has it's short comings as well, including using more power, heat and some artifacts.
Buy what you need or want.
Screen quality may differ from unit to unit in either the 55" or 65" like any other TV whether it's Samsung, LG or Sony.

So buy what you think is best for you.

I'm betting the 55" will knock your socks off when set up properly like any TV should be.

Did some research on Hisense and found this article.
https://www.consumerreports.org/t...492902364/

Those buying this may want to consider buying an extended warranty to extend the included 1 year warranty. Would suck to lose 1k if it breaks after a year.

Amazon probably figures they will say money overall because the majority of people will not want to bother boxing up the TV and sending it back.

Isn't the 100 Day guarantee through Hisense? If Hisense is taking care of the return, I have heard they will not refund your taxes. I wasn't sure if Amazon was handling the return for those that got the TV through them?

But how is the tv, is it great?

thanks, not surprised about the others. "No brand that earns a Poor or Fair rating for predicted reliability is eligible for a CR recommendation. In addition to Vizio and Hisense, Element, RCA, and Westinghouse also have subpar reliability ratings. But no models from those brands had high enough Overall Scores to be recommended.:

While the consumer reports survey may have held relevance years ago it is so outdated to significantly reflect reliability of current models and technological changes. The study is from 2010-2018 with less than 100,000 surveyed (not a significant sample size given an 8 year range with no clear indication of hisense specific sample size). 3 years is a game changer in the TV realm look at current Samsung, LG and Sony offerings as a whole compared to 3 years ago, a stark difference in terms of overall quality per price point. Their name recognition carries sales as opposed to hisense where "more for the money" is their only way to increase market share, with all things there are compromises but the U8G vs the TCL 6 Series 65's should be the real slick deals this holiday season when it comes to LED panels compared to the "big 3". As an aside always look at CC warranty offerings they will often go to bat for you where manufacturer warranty falls short.

Best Buy shows the 65" U8G $985 price will end today. That doesn't necessarily mean the price will increase.

Best Buy showed the same thing last week. The price was $1000, shot up to $1120 and then down to $985 a few hours later.

It may be worth it to buy a no hassle extended warranty for many TVs when getting up there in price. As long as they are reputable and honor the warranty with no arguing.

That said - - -

We have a Hisense 55H8F now since November of 2019 and many hours on it with no issues. The picture is still amazing. We only use if for streaming, OTA antenna broadcast channel viewing and Blu-ray and sometimes with our Roku Ultra.

We have it on most days for 6 to 8 hours.

You can still use Amazon to price match to Best Buy if you want to pickup locally instead.

I return Hisense U8G 65" for a TCL 646 75"... I really regret doing so. the wife and kids love that it is bigger and good, but I can NOT since the picture is X10 better because of the color / black & white /clarity / brightness sound on the U8G, I really believe it as good as an OLED

Strange how Hisense decided to drop this and some other TV's down in price after the TCL sale. Man, TCL can't win in this US market this season haha
