So I had this monitor and ended up returning it, but it is decent enough, especially for a ultrawide that isn't outrageously expensive.

I ended up returning it because I preferred using a dual monitor setup for my workflow. You just end up getting more space with two normal sized monitors that with one ultrawide.

But if you're someone that can only really have a single monitor setup and don't need the best color accuracy, it's a good looking monitor that has an attractive price for its resolution and size.

You do not want VA monitors for gaming. Look for IPS only. While VA monitors have a better picture (better blacks) they have an issue with black refresh which results in smearing of dark areas in fast moving games.

This is why you always see all the cheaper monitors VA and the expensive ones IPS.

What would you suggest for a 1440p 34" ultrawide IPS monitor for $249?

It's a great deal as long as you understand the reason it is cheap.

Look at this: (Fast Forward to the 2:20 and 5:10 mark in the video)

Now if you can deal with this (many can) then this is a great deal. Also keep in mind that while the higher resolution is better, you need a better video card to drive all those extra pixels. This is why I recommend a lower resolution ultrawide for those who game with lessor GPU's.

Is this better than the Costco monitor? Just need something for office work and maybe some light gaming.

160hz is much, much better for response time overall, especially fir gaming.

I have this monitor. For the price there really isn't an equivalent 3440x1440 ultrawide. For my use case, I often have 2 windows side by side and can appreciate viewing full webpages without side to side scrolling. Just know color accuracy/range isn't that great, but the monitor does overclock to 95hz for anyone wondering.
