Let's hope Amazon doesn't screw up the new series.

It's Amazon. The Orcs are gonna be white and the White Wizard is gonna be black.
I will say though, for me personally, the Lord of the Rings movies were never ones where I associated with or recall having noticeable film grain, so the DNR doesn't bother me. It's early 90s films (and earlier) where I start caring that they preserve the film grain.
In my opinion, the only flaws with this set are a few actual visual artifacts that occurred due to the DNR process. And I didn't even notice them, I had to watch a youtube video where they were pointed out specifically.

It's not as bad as the original Predator's use of DNR but it is there unfortunately. I hope we get a new 4K transfer by the time the 25th anniversary hits. 😑

Worked for me. Code is targeted. YMMV….

I would agree, it was far and few between.
It's one of the few movies that received a worthy upgrade especially on the audio side.
That said the biggest benefactor would be a good display and a proper object based setup.
With a good upscaling 4K player you could get away with the BD EE version since they were reference quality on its own IMO.

Yes they did get a object based soundtrack upgrade.

I would suggest the Panasonic 420, when it goes on sale for $150.
You lose DV but the HDR processing is so good the difference isn't significant.
What you gain is all your other disc get a significant PQ upgrade because of its great upscaling.
