Last week I had to return a drive for warranty and they have a specific Packaging requirement or, the drives are returned.... I guess NewEgg didn't have those instructions when they sent me these....
The customer service person I first spoke to didn't know what a hard drive was, (nor did they care, Not their Job).... had no idea why I was upset.... I just have to ask anyone here on this tread see this as a problem? I have been in the computer business for over 30 years I have never encountered anything like this
Does anyone else see the problem or am I just being too hard on them?

Thanks for the post, I will not be ordering this (and yeah, I have been working with PC since early 90s with 1Mhz and turbo of 2Mhz speed, yes, we had a turbo button back then)..

I received my 4TB drive last Fri from Newegg, the packaging was OK - it was placed in a thick bubble pocket inside a small box that just fits a 3.5" drive. There was no rattling but somehow the drive was dead on arrival, it made a huge spinning noise as soon as it was powered up. I immediately started the return process, Newegg provided a free UPS shipping label and already issued a full refund earlier this week.
Looks WD also packs their drives in a similar way to yours, see posts #136 and #145 of the following thread,

With poor packaging of these bare drives, I may have to consider buying new drives in full retail packages only in the future. Currently B&H has it for $70,

But WDBAVV0040HNC-WRSN seems to be the retailed version of WD40EFRX, which is older and has a small cache than WD40EFZX. Can anyone who has bought the same drive from earlier B&H BF deal confirm ?

but they did list a similar packaging (slightly larger bubble in Newegg box):

if they didn't do this the packer was at fault.

I'd run these thru the Hard Disk Sentinel or WD utility before Jan 31st, DOAs do happen
and it's best to know about bad sectors early. The free defective return/exchange beats RMA'ing to WDC and maybe getting a restored/repaired unit.

That's a good thing. We don't need tons of packaging on every single thing we buy.
Agreed. Not the point at all, was just kindly letting them know I received minimal packaging as well, but I'm glad we can agree on something.
The reds are better. They must be durable to handle a datacenter like environment.
They can be but will be not performance oriented and will perform much slower.
