Just no. NEVER use a bare conductor to carry current. It's unsafe and it's against code. If a qualified electrician wouldn't dare do this, what makes you think it's good advice for a bunch of amateurs on SD fiddling with their home's wiring?

A ground conductor is meant to carry fault current ONLY.
Man, lot of bad info in here.

1. No, these are not dimmable. There is a separate model that is dimmable.
2. No, these can't be used as a 3-way. There is a separate model that is for 3-way set ups.
3. These are wifi only devices. Will not work with z-wave or zigbee protocols. Not much of a concern though unless you have a basic wifi setup which is never recommended. Get a dedicated IoT network for things like this to reduce your risks. Granted, hacking is very rare and the Kasa switches are highly susceptible to hacking but anything is possible for someone who is adamant but then again, that goes for anything, not just smart switches.
4. Connection issues are rare too. Any wifi device can/may have connection issues. Nothing inherent is wrong with these switches. They do require a 2.4ghz network and one that doesn't have a wide channel band. Most IoT devices are very simple, no need to prioritize speed here so keep that network setup simple. I have over 20 Kasa devices in my house, never had a connection issue, but a lot of that is a robust network setup vs. a simple Target purchased router.
5. Tapo is not likely to replace Kasa. Kasa is thriving very well in this space and their product line is growing. I don't see them going away any time soon.
No. There's a different model with the traveler wire.

Separate IoT network, firewall rules, vlans, etc. Nothing will be bulletproof, but there are ways to reduce your risk. Since most people don't do this, i'm not the house in my neighborhood that'll get messed with.
Thanks..

I have one router that has all devices, including phones, tablets, TV, switches, etc connected to it. On the WAN side router is connected to cable modem, on the LAN side it is connected to WAN port of another router that has computers and servers connected to it with different IP network.

I am thinking of making it into three tiers now. Moving phones and tablets to second router, and the domain network to another router.

Your thoughts on it will be greatly appreciated.

Just a heads up Kasa may be on its way to being a discontinued brand replaced by Tapo if the post in the TPLink sub are to be believed.
Is there any credible source there? I've been seeing those posts and they all seem like rumor. That would be a bummer. Kasa/TP-Link have consistently been the most reliable products I've owned. Over the last year I've retired every other switch I've owned and replaced with Kasa. It would really be a bummer if the product line was discontinued and stopped working with the app/smart assistants.

I have installed several single and 3-way switches. Most of the switches were purchased 2-3 years ago. I recently purchased some new switches in 2021 and was pleasantly surprised to find that the new switches have been shrunk a little. They are now not as deep and I was even able to install a 3-way switch into a box that I previously was not able to install the switch into.

I have a setup that allows for multiple LANS to be sent out over one access point so I don't play the router inception game but essentially you could use one router as your main router and the 2nd one as a simple access point and have it only broadcast 2.4ghz for the IoT and non-essential devices but unless you have VLAN capabilities and robust firewall rules it's a lot of work for very little gain.
