Thanks for the link. If you actually watch the Chinese video that the article references the new controller Samsung switched to is significantly faster than the old for the first 115G written in a sustained burst, up to 1GB/s faster in fact. It's only after 115G where the new controller is slower. I can't think of many workloads that write 115GB in a single sustained write. I can think of a lot of workloads that write less than 115GB though and those run much faster. Also, the new controller they switched to is the one they use in their 980 pro, so this doesn't look like some kind of cost-reduction switcharoo.

lr;dr - The new controller Samsung switched to on latest shipments is actually preferable to the old controller.

If it was any place other than Newegg I'd be jumping on this, but I just can't take dealing with them. Last year, after huge hassles with a return, I said 'never again'. Sticking to it.

Can't say I truly "regret" purchasing the 1TB version of this (several months ago - and it's been great) for only a few $ less than this, but it is good to see storage prices moving in the right direction for a change…

Although I do have to wonder if they're still using the inferior/slower controller they sort of secretly switched to last year. I haven't seen an update since this was published.

Oh damn, I just ordered 2TB Crucial P5 3D NAND M.2 PCIe Gen 3 x4 NVMe Internal Solid State Drive yesterday for the same price. Anyone know which is a better drive?
I did the same but Samsung is about 20 - 30% better across most benchmarks so I bought this one and I am returning the p5

I bought this for $161 from Amazon last week. Pretty good deal!
Actually from Amazon or a 3rd party seller? I bought last week also, but at $220 (I was impatient)

Sounds like the same behavior as their T7 portable drive - throttle for larger transfers and T5 never does

Are there usually items that ship free to Hawaii?
Though I lived there before Amazon was around, I can confidently say "eff no". I paid a premium for everything other than pineapple.

Awesome to see 2TB hovering around this price now, it's taken years. This is a great m2
Gen 3 nvme are getting phased out slowly hence the price drop. With Gen 5 around the corner.

I just told my friend, get the 2TB P5 because Samsung won't have a deal for awhile lol. I guess he's going to cancel and get this now.

But then again with the added new info from this post, he might be better off with the P5 instead. 90% of the performance, but overall lower temps. Might be better for a gaming laptop.

I tend to agree but the pass 18 months they have been good. I had issues with one shipment of evo 1tb stolen , they asked me to show the package picture and they replaced it with 2 day shipping.
I had a Acer monitor replaced when they claimed it was new but it was clearly used , they asked me how I knew it was used. When I told them that the monitor and wires were not packaged properly, they sent a replacement back .

Do you have a link? I'd be interested in seeing the details. For example, if that is based on time or actual amount written. The T5 has a much lower front-end bandwidth cap due to being an mSATA drive (600 MB/S), whereas the T7 is NVMe and doing 1 GB/S (USB 3.2 cap) , so it would stand to reason the T7 would exhaust its cache before the T5 does, or the T5 never slowing down because it can sustain the lower cap on the actual non-cache part of NAND.

Only thing I don't like about newegg is the coupons discount is applied after the taxes so they are technically get some of the tax money. So might be close in price to the 159 deal amazon had not too long ago.
