The problem that I have with these is that quite often if I manually try to turn them off, they won't. You can hit it a few times and it just looks at you funny. I was authorized for rma, but by the time I pay for shipping, I could just buy a new one.

Sounds like defective unit. Have been using three of them for past year and they always work as expected. You shouldn't pay for return shipping if it is defective.

The face plate on these are actually abnormally large and due to design you cannot use a normal/replacement faceplate.

I put a normal faceplate on just fine. I even have one installed in an outdoor waterproof housing.

Thanks OP…in for another 3. These are much more reliable than WeMo.

BTW….anyone know why Amazon charges tax on the full price, not the after coupon price? That seems sketchy. I wonder if they are taking the difference into their profits.

Correct. The normal faceplate will stick out from the wall as the frame of the switch is thicker that the normal switches.

But I used the normal faceplate when i installed two next two each other (also one kasa, one normal switch); and it's perfectly fine and flush.

They are normal size on the outside just that back is bigger, if you have small switch box and have many wires may be harder to fit.
So the picture of the switch is not accurate? These are the giant button style switches, and not a normal light switch switch, right?

Amazon doesn't charge state sales tax, they collect state sales tax and remit them to the individual states - pocketing the difference between the taxable amount on the non-discounted price and the taxable amount on the discounted price would have 50 states attorney generals after them for tax fraud.

I'm not sure how the determination is made as to what amount the state sales tax is charged against and I wonder if it varies by state - certainly it is in the individual state's interest to charge against the pre-discount price as it means more tax revenue for the states.

I do know here in PA when I use my Microcenter CC, Microcenter gives me a 5% discount, but the PA 6% sales tax is charged against the pre-discounted price, again more revenue for the state.

Ok need a CPA Slickealer to comment Smilie

That's called a toggle switch. These in the post are Decora style.

These are standard sized "Decora" large paddle sized switches and are compatible with standard Decora face plates - they come with their own faceplate and are also compatible with most off-the-shelf Decora style wallplates from various manufacturers - I have used these TP-Link Kasa switches with Lutron Claro screwless plastic wallplates in multi-gang boxes of varying counts (single, 2,3,and 4 gang) - plastic wallplates are preferable to steel wallplates as the steel wallplates can diminish 2.4Ghz radio signals that these switches operate on.

These switches are comparatively large if you are trying to use them in an older home with smaller switch boxes - my home is ~60 years old, and I ended up swapping out the "gangable" 3 gang switch box at my front door for a larger modern triple gang box, which is much better suited to holding larger modern smart switches and dimmer switches.

I have a modern addition on my home, and the plastic switch boxes installed in that part of the house have no problem accommodating smart switches (in my case, I have a mix of TP-Link Kasas and Lutron Casetas).

So yes, these are the more modern "Decora" style large paddle switches, not the older style toggle switches which many people may still have in their homes.

Note that Decora style paddle switches can coexist in a multi-gang box with the older style toggle switches, as long as there is enough room in the box for smart and/or dimmer switches. I have taken the opportunity to swap out my old toggle switches for Decora paddle switches in multi-gang boxes where I am adding a smart switch, to keep the Decora style look consistent.

Yes you can. I just installed a half dozen of these and used regular faceplates for them all

Just like going to a grocery store, you get charged tax on the item, then the coupon is applied. There's nothing wrong with the way the transaction was done.

You should just get some smart relays [amazon.com] and turn your existing switches into smart switches
