Unless you have specific programs that you know will take advantage of the 96mb L3 cache the 5900x is a much better deal. You get 4 more cores and 8 more threads for $50 less.

those specific programs are games. The 5800X3D is the best processor for gaming right now. So it is simple, if you are mostly a gamer this is the best processor you can get. If not, there are much better ones for the money.

It is common for games to now use 6 cores and I am sure they will use 8 in the near future. Of course they still heavily rely on single core performance for the most part, but still use up to 6 cores to some extent.
