$320 is the new MSRP for the 5800X3D CPU only, but it has been on sale before for as low as $260.

AAAWave has the CPU only for $280: https://slickdeals.net/f/17307058-amd-ryzen-7-5800x3d-3-4ghz-8-core-16-thread-am4-desktop-processor-280-free-shipping

If you already have an AM4 build and are looking to max it out, then this is the CPU to do it with.

However, if you're building a new rig, skip this CPU and build on the AM5 platform with the Ryzen 5 7600 or 7600X, both of which are much cheaper and match the 5800X3D's gaming performance. AM5 will be around for another while, so you'll have a CPU upgrade path without having to also replace your motherboard etc.

PS: Micro Center (if you have one nearby) has had 7600X + motherboard + RAM combos for $250 in the past.
PPS: The 7600X (no cooler included) has been cheaper than the 7600 (cooler included) recently, so get the X variant.

Edit #1: Fixed some factual errors.

Edit #2: Micro Center has a 5800X3D + B550 mobo + RAM bundle for $320: https://www.microcenter.com/produ...ild-bundle

My bad, mate. It seems they don't have those anymore. I'll edit my comment.

Appreciate the info! I'll start looking at budget 7600 builds if they're within the same price range, but I'm about 800 miles from the nearest microcenter unfortunately. Have you seen comparable prices anywhere else?

Combos I don't know, but both Newegg and Amazon might have something. Amazon has the 7600X for cheaper, but it doesn't come with a cooler. You can certainly get a tower cooler separately and match the price of the 7600 non-X (which comes with a generic cooler).

PPPS: The 7600 and 7600x are essentially the same chip based on performance (same boost clock), but the 7600 has a much lower TDP (lower heating requirements and lower electricity usage).

While performance can be close, they don't share the same clocks. 7600 is a cut-down version of 7600X, which has higher base and boost clocks (https://www.amd.com/en/processors/ryzen).

I must've remembered it incorrectly, but like you said performance is negligible at the boost clock, which is when you'll be putting the chip through it's paces anyways.

Microcenter has been having good combos lately. I snagged a 7700x + B650MB +32gb ddr5 for $350 just two weeks ago. With a lot of those combos being sold, people were selling their unopened 32gb kits for super cheap as they were upgrading to RGB ram. Ended up with 7700x + B650 + 64gb ddr5 for $410, ended up finding a brand new dark pro 4 on fb marketplace for $30. Only saying all to give people ideas how to build cheaper..

That 7700x combo is going for $370 right now. https://www.microcenter.com/produ...ild-bundle

What speeds are you able to run the memory at? Sounds like you installed 4x16GB modules. Any issues with stability?

With Expo enable task manager says 6000MHz/Expo disabled 3600MHz. I run Expo enabled all the time and haven't had any issues with stability. I read that the RAM offered in the earlier AMD combos, the Memory Kit F5-6000J3636F16GX2-FX5 had some issues and maybe you needed to set the ram to 5200 to solve. The later bundle, one I bought and ones currently on sale are sold with Memory Kit F5-6000J3238F16GX2-FX5 which have slightly different timing solving the stability issues mentioned above.. At least that's what I've read from other comments on those deals when they were live.

I'm tempted to go return the 5700x3d I picked up from there on Tuesday for 240 and pick this up as this seems like a great deal, but I probably shouldn't spend 80$ additional dollars on RAM and a motherboard I don't need.

I don't know how easily I'd be able to sell my OG B450 tomahawk.
