Not sure if I would give this a "thumbs down", but it is certainly not the cheapest ever. I would give Newegg some thumbs down for listing this two days ago at the same price as the "deal of the day" on both occasions. It certainly seems like less of a deal from that perspective.
$325 is the standard price (both for Amazon and Newegg).
$300 seems to be the 'dip to' price.
This is still an amazing processor and, very likely, the best deal you can get from AMD for the AM4 platform.
The 7700x is around the same price, but does require (or, if you want it, ALLOW) the AM5 platform.

I went from a 5800X to a 5800X3D recently, which some people would regard as a lateral move. However, my desktop is primarily for gaming, while my Macbook Pro 14" is what I use for more "serious" work.
My point is, paired with my 3080 Founders Edition, I saw a noticeable difference (uplift) in a LOT of games. Minimum and average framerates went up noticeably, especially in AAA titles like Cyberpunk 2077. I understand that it's not as dramatic of an upgrade compared to coming from, say, a Ryzen 5 3600. But it's still noticeable.
I was able to get it for $299 from Microcenter, although Best Buy was happy to price match (I happen to live near both). You're welcome to try the same, though Best Buy will ask you for a ZIP code to make sure there's a Microcenter near you.

Jealous of your proximity to Micro Center! I wonder if Best Buy would price match something out of market. I doubt it, but it never hurts to ask!
Thank you for conveying the improvements from the 5800x to 5800x3d. I suspect most would actually argue it is a fairly decent step up (more of a lateral from, say the 7700x to 5800x3D, despite them being AM5 vs AM4), but nevertheless, it helps justify the added $70-$80 cost over the 5800x.
I am still running a Ryzen 5 1600, so when I take this plunge, I can only imagine the step up!
I went 1600X -> 3900X -> 5800X -> 5800X3D. You're definitely due for an upgrade, even to the 3000 series. But the base 5800X is cheap enough to upgrade to, honestly.
Also for anyone else reading, the 5800X3D is slightly slower in benchmarks than the 5800X because the base and turbo clock rates are ever so slightly slower (not that it would make a real world impact). The reason it performs better in games is because of the dramatically increased cache (96 MB vs 32 MB). That's why it's only an upgrade from the 5800X in the context of gaming (and very few other areas like code compilation).

Thanks for the heads up, I had no idea BB would still price match as long as your shipping address is close by a Microcenter. Just got them to PM the 5800X3D for me as well. Much appreciated!

I was able to get Best Buy to price match Micro Center. When they asked me for my zip code, I gave them one near Micro Center. Then when they asked for a shipping address, I gave them one that was 4 hours away. They had no issue processing it.

Literally my same specs. Have been contemplating on moving to 5800x3d. Playing on 3440x1440 so not sure if it'd make a big difference.

I upgraded from 3600 with a 3080 and play 1440p ultra wide too. It made a difference on games like flight simulator. It's much smoother probably because of the higher 1% lows.

3600x to 5800x3d with a 3080. i cannot understate the amount of smoothness in gameplay and overall FPS increase i saw when switching. to add to that, using PBO2 to undervolt basically keeps my PC quiet even while gaming and allows it to boost to 4.55ghz almost the entire time.
AMD has these chips fairly locked down, so no autooverclocking but honestly its such a hot CPU in stock form my 280MM Corsair AIO was even struggling to keep it below 70c sometimes. -30 undervolt on the curve in PBO2 and now temps barely get into the 60s while gaming.

I play at standard 1440p (2560x1440) for reference, and I saw a difference.
I've actually capped all my games at 140 FPS (so that G-Sync kicks in) because they go so far above now. Like Doom Eternal completely maxed out, WITH Ray Tracing will go 180-200 FPS easily if uncapped.
Cyberpunk 2077 maxed out with DLSS Quality (no Ray Tracing) is 100 FPS on the lowest end, and 160+ FPS in less demanding areas.
Call of Duty MW2019/Cold War, same story -- about 200 FPS maxed out with DLSS and slightly less without DLSS (DLSS is free frames though, so no point turning it off).
Again, it depends on how each game is coded, because what's making the difference in performance is the increased cache on the CPU die; not because the CPU itself is faster. In some games, you will see the same performance. So definitely check out benchmarks on YouTube and other sites to see what games benefit from the increased cache.
