Android os is the best os for TV's. It's clean easy to use every app is available to download. No adds other than "google recommendations" for tv shows / movies to rent on the play store, but you can move that section to the very bottom of the list so you never have to see it.

The reason it gets a bad wrap is because it isn't designed for budget TVs. The OS is a memory hog. Which all of these budget TVs don't have the on board ram to keep up with it and it results in the Home Screen lagging and pausing and every once in a while freezing and needing reset the TV.

Once you're in an app like Netflix or hbo there is no freezing. It's just the Home Screen. People flip over it because they buy these $300 TVs and expect them to work like the $2300 version.

I have the 65 in hisense that I got for $250 a few years back and while the tv studders every once in awhile (3 times a month or so) I've only had it completely freeze once.

I like the os feel and experience it gives.
I don't find it bad at all. You can always just get a Roku stick and plug it in and use that?
You get what you pay for, it's the buyers choice to choose the cheapest hardware to run the most powerful OS and have it seem lacking in performance, or buy better hardware like a nvidia shield or a tv with better specs to run it properly.

Manufacturers are delivering lowest cost and higher cost options, they are not in control of your choice on this matter.

Is Android TV any better on their higher end TVs? Have two lower end Hisense's and navigating the TV controls is so bad it's unbearable.

So the cheap buyers are to blame for the problems....not Google for allowing its full bloat software to be used in an inappropriate environment nor the TV maker choosing said software knowing the memory level is questionable? OK...........
Cheap tv's are going to struggle with any OS. I got a cheapie 3 series tcl tv with Roku a few years ago and it absolutely chokes with the Roku operating system - I have to use a seperate Roku device for the tv to even be usable with things like Netflix.

On the other hand I have last year's Hisense H8G with Android TV and it works great.

I think the upper tier tv's from any manufacturer is more likely to run the OS fine.

Got this same TV for this price last time. Some weird eARC issues with my Google TV specifically when turning it off. Using the standard remote to power it off works fine. Picture and specs are phenomenal for the price but the motion is rough coming from Sony TV sets. Sure, 120hz panel but it seriously doesn't feel like it in a lot of scenarios. Bothered me so much I left my 900F in my living room and put this one in a spare room

I have this TV, Android OS runs great on it. It does have other issues with software though. Seems like every update they have breaks something. Last one broke HDR and 120Hz for consoles (and some other things), they fixed that with current update and broke the sound for people using ARC/eARC/Optical. I still think it's a fantastic TV, though I think I paid
$250 GC? Unlikely. I do know there was a Hisense promo few months back giving $100 GC for Uber or Doordash (or something) with certain TV models.

Does anything reasonably priced have blacks that compare to plasma yet? Or is that still just with very expensive OLEDs still. My 2014 plasma is starting to get burn in, but I really don't want to downgrade to an LED display with bad blacks.
With what you are accustomed to OLED is your friend

Do you live near a Microcenter?..if so they have some refurbished LG C1s in 55 ,65 and 77 that people seemed to be very happy with

I bought this around Christmas for a similar price and have been very happy with it. I use an Apple TV so I don't have to mess with the OS (Roku is better), but once I turned off whatever prompts I have had zero issues.
Looks like an expensive/higher-end model going by build quality/stand. I bought this after buying my son the newer but cheaper model from Costco, and was floored by how good the picture was on his for the price.

Not a bad deal of $600 for the 55U8G.
Back in December I price matched and got one and ended up for $643 at BB.

I won't do having a TV shipped to me anymore. I went that route twice before and had minor but unacceptable damage. . . one time the screen was separating at an outer edge and wasn't obvious right away.

The short of is that I'd rather spend $43 more from a box store that is 2 miles away if I have to return it and get another.

After +6 months with the U8G we are well pleased for our use with streaming, movies and broadcast network TV off our garage attic antenna.

As others have said, picture quality on this TV is outstanding and matches or exceeds anything from the Samsung, Sony or LG in the $1,200 to $1,500 price range.

Are TVs in the mid to low priced range perfect? NO . .. you will find quirks in all of them depending on your use (gaming for instance) or if you do not understand how to make proper settings and just start tweaking away with no understanding.

If you're not a TV expert and don't game, how does this compare to the U7G? I can look up the specs anytime, but I'm looking for more day to day opinions watching sports, streaming, some cable. I realize the U8G has better brightness, but this would be for a bedroom with some ambient lights and one window.
