That is strange as the last time I had seen power consumption rates the 12700k was at least 20 to 30 percent higher than the 5900x

It also does so while drawing notably more power and with it more heat. It is less of a concern if you already have a good cooling solution but it is worth noting.

Is this all time lowest? Very tempting. Still on a 3800X not sure it would be worth it or not.

All time lowest from my gatherings. Some people will say "next gen is coming and these prices will drop further" but from what I recall, the 3900X didn't get any cheaper than this when they were clearing them out when the 5000 series arrived.

Killer price/performance ratio.

Agree, in for one.
3yrs ago, I upgraded from a 12yr old computer to the 2600x. Figured I'd wait till AM5 came out and I'd buy the fastest AM4 once the price drops. This seems like a pretty good deal and the right time. I guess I could wait longer but like you say, I don't know it would drop further

Not an intel fan, but i7-12700K is the same price and performs better generally and has an iGPU in case one doesn't have a gpu immediately lying around. Cheapest z690 is 155~ish.

IIUC 12th gen Intel actually consumes less power then equivalent AMD. That was 11th gen when Intel dropped the ball

I saw the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X was only $274.99 on amazon and jumped on it. I was real tempted by the 5900x ,but felt that the 5800x was good enough for my needs.

A 3800X is still pretty fast and a 5900X doesn't give you that much of a gain so I'd wait for the new gen CPUs to come out and get one of those instead of this.

For those of us who don't game and are looking at lower end workstation usage (lower end in that I was considering Threadripper, but am in the middle of a really drawn out move so had been considering a Ryzen build that'll just become my regular desktop in 1-2 years) this is...just rough. Its not about the next generation processor improvements so much as it is building an AM4 socket motherboard.

Great deal, thanks OP, this might push me over the edge into a "budget" mini-itx X570 build.

Technically, not the all-time lowest. It was $336 after the 20% ebay coupon last week. After SD cashback, it was down to $319.

Note that it was NEW on ebay, not used, from a seller with 98.7% positive feedback and over 300k stars. I posted it as a comment to the ebay coupon thread. I posted it as a separate post, but SD mods took it down, because of some weird old ban on the high rated seller.

It's also been $370 for a while at Microcenter. If you use one of the $25 off coupons (either share your build or for CPUs) that have been posted about here, that brings it down to $345, which is also a bit lower than this.

I've had similar issues trying to post deals, regardless of how legit the company was.. maybe it's a lack of kickback or people complaining about mediocre cs, SD isn't what is used to be

I wouldn't buy it off eBay personally due to lack of warranty or potential warranty complications. It's been lower used on Amazon warehouse too, but we've all read horror stores about Amazon not checking their CPU returns properly.

My closest Microcenter is a 5 hour drive, so there's millions of us that immediately have to disregard these magical Microcenter deals because they're in-store only.
