This basically matches Apples edu promo $1849 + free $150 apple gift card. AppleCare is discounted through apple edu currently not sure if it is via 3rd parties
Great price on an amazing laptop, especially you qualify for any of the sales tax holidays (most haven't started yet). The price is too high for some states (FL and TN have the active holiday but limit it to computers under $1500).
I have one and can use it for days before needing to charge it, unless I'm really stressing the CPU and GPU.
Edit: "for days" means 2-3 with Word, light internet, etc. My battery typically lasts 15 hours with light work so I can use it for 6-7 hours each workday and then charge on the 2nd or 3rd day. Heavier workloads drop the battery life to 3-6 hours (3 hours with full CPU and GPU use).

Do these recent price drops suggest we could see updates to the 14 and 16 for an M2 pro/max chip soon?
I'd like to get a new MacBook, but I don't like the form factor of the 13" m2, not do I want the Touch Bar and less ports IIRC.
Not really. This was on sale ever since earlier this year. It's just rare to see below $1750 but as someone mentioned BB may be trying to match Apple's back to school deal.

Saw this on Amazon last week for $1560. I think prices for the 2021 base model may go even lower.
If memory serves, they did sell Amazon Renewed for this price last week, which would be a great deal for Apple Certified Refurbished units. Not sure about the fomer though (90 day refund/replacement notwithstanding).
