Went to Best Buy to possibly purchase they kept pushing the total tech with apple care but I just wanted apple care without Best Buy attached to it. They were saying apple care isn't extendable after it expires which I thought was false so I left without buying lol total tech is also a yearly fee

I'd much rather just pay an extra $100 for a refurbished MBP from Apple direct. You get Apple's standard warranty and a laptop that looks brand new. Apple's refurbished MBPs are truly like-new quality.

The nice thing about open-box from BB, is that there is a high probability that it was a customer return within the 14 day window, and as such would still qualify for Applecare+. (60 days I believe.) So you save a couple of hundred, and still have the option to get Applecare+ coverage. And if it doesn't qualify, you can take it back.

I got my MBP 14 for $1599 from Costco, and if the open-box prices for excellent condition versions keeps going down, I would certainly buy one and compare the two. If it is truly in excellent condition, and I could get Applecare, then I would certainly return my initial MBP to Costco.

Open box pricing is proportional to the sale price. Back in 2021, the M1 Macbook Air went on sale for $750 a bunch of times. I snagged a fair condition open box for $534.99. The box itself was pretty beat up, but the laptop itself was flawless and it came with all of the accessories.
