Are you using the apple edu store? The M1 air with 16/512 is $1260 before taxes. That's a much better deal than the M2 with the same specs and still a lot cheaper than this pro
I don't know, once you go up to 16gb ram and 512gb SSD on the air, you're only a couple hundred off this price. For the better gpu, screen, speakers, more ports, better cooling I chose to spend the extra $ hoping this will take longer before it becomes obsolete as well.
Only 11 hours? how many people spent more than 11 hours a day with their laptop without a plug? Compared to my intel macbook pro it feels like the battery lasts 3 times longer minimum and feels significantly faster. The air is better and more portable for most people just doing basic task but i never felt my 14 inch to feel too heavy to carry around or have any significant battery anxiety. Most of the time i even max it out at 70% battery which leaves me about 30% battery when i am done with several hours of use to keep the battery healthy.
We're looking to purchase a MacBook for my sister going into college. We settled on the MacBook Air, which should be more than enough for school work. I did recommend upgrading to 16gb RAM and 512Gb storage which gets you up to the $1500 range; With the new M2 chip coming out you're up around $1700 for the same configuration. That makes this deal look pretty good, considering the upgraded GPU, screen and I'm sure there's more things the Pro has... time for more research I guess.

Those mentioning Costco. I have been looking in a few stores over past couple weeks in GA. The 14's always have sold out signs. Not sure if that is a reflection of overall stock.

Yeah I think with the edu discount we were around $1350 with the 16/512 config, I'll have to check again then, thanks. My sister found out about the M2 and it looks like we're going to wait for that one though, I saw a video that said the M2 might out perform the M1 by more than Apple advertised. If we can get the M2 with the edu discount then that might be the play.

Im insured in the Air M2 but it doesn't seem that much lighter or smaller than the 14" Pro.
