Of course. That's why I am sticking to my AM4 and will skip the 7000 series. At least I hope by that time DDR5 prices will normalize themselves and AMD would fix all the stability issues with this new tech (AM5) using the early adopters
This might be a good deal for whoever is staying on AM4 like me but I think it will even get cheaper after AMD releases the next gen ones on the 27t. I will wait for the reviewers benchmarks to see if it's really worth it
Other then better gaming performance I don't see how this is a deal over the current 245bucks 5800x. I don't think its worth 140 bucks more if at all i would invest that 140 bucks in a better videocard.

Of course AMD was tooting their own horn during their big reveal yesterday, the new 7000 series is faster, better, etc. according to them, however bear in mind you're talking a new board (new AM5 socket), CPU and memory (DDR5) to move up.

I agree, first gen/early adopters will be AMD's beta testers and I'm sure we're going to see years of AGESA updates going forward, not to mention DDR5 is still expensive as hell right now.

Better options for DDR4 + the 3D vcache of this CPU and some memory tuning might end up beating the next generation chips that were just announced.

Maybe for a little while, the 3D V-Cache 7000 series CPU's are rumored to be coming out early/mid 2023. There's no such thing as future proofing.

I am on very old FM2 right now. I think I'll go directly to AM5 and also skip PCIE-4 graphic cards. The new 7900 looks very strong on paper.

Well yes, it's a new architecture. The AM4 socket has been around for 5 years now......

Good cpu, socket is pretty much end of life though. If you upgrade in the future you will need a new Motherboard (AM5 Socket) + new RAM (DDR5) + new CPU

7-series is right around the corner, but I wouldn't be surprised if the 5800X3D is still a top contender for gaming performance even after the 7-series releases. The 3D cache is just amazing for gaming performance. Eventually there will be a 7-series X3D, but it hasn't been announced by AMD yet. Who knows how long you'll wait? Were I in the market, I would probably still wait to see benchmarks on the 7-series, but you wouldn't be totally crazy to buy a 5800X3D if you're not too price sensitive and gaming performance is your ultimate goal.

In certain physics heavy game types (think flight sims) and some VR applications, the added cache means huge performance benefits, far more than you'd get from a $140 GPU upgrade.
