Unfortunately, it is expensive and uses older hardware that doesn't fully support all the new stuff. It does well with most things though.
There are some people that find it getting to be buggy, while others still have a great experience after 3 years of ownership.
I personally think this is still too expensive for a device using 3 year old hardware, but I would buy a new version of this. However, I'm not sure if Nvidia will update the hardware again.
If you just want a device that works and you aren't worried about playing high quality Blu Ray rips, this is probably overkill - I'd probably look at the firetv, Roku, ccwgtv, Apple 4k, etc.
Here's a decent discussion on Reddit comparing the Apple TV 4k / Firecube 3 / Shield Pro TV - https://www.reddit.com/r/ShieldAn...are_
Edit - it's also at Best Buy and B&H Photo for the same price.

I was given the smaller shield. I've used the shield to play plex on my older Samsung 8000 series with max res 1080p.
I'll admit that it blows apples 4k tv, Roku and any box out of the water when using it to play plex 4k content. My ATV and Roku crashes when playing 4k content on plex. I've never had a problem on my shield.
I've been watching and waiting for this deal. Thanks OP!

3rd gen Cube - Amlogic A311D2 12nm
Shield Pro - Tegra x1+ 16nm
It's just ridiculous that Nvidia can sell such old tech, for more, than much faster processors, and people defend it.
The Shield is now slower than the Apple TV, 3rd gen Cube and even the 2nd gen Cube, after the last Android update!
It's been 3 years since there has been a refresh, at this point I have to wonder if Nvidia has any plans for a new Shield. Considering the Shield gives the wink to Blu-ray pirates, I wouldn't be surprised if Nvidia decided to drop future development, or was coerced to.
vs ATV 2022:
-No app store so no Kodi, RetroArch, X-plore, etc.
-No USB ports
-No sideloading like for SmartTubeNext, Kodi updates, RetroArch updates, etc.
-No AI upscaling
-No chromecast
-No Atmos passthrough
-No backlit remote
Setup:
2 x Sony XR-77A80j
1 x Sony HT-A9
2 x NVidia Shield Pro 2019
1 x Apple TV 4K 2022 128gb Ethernet model.
All streaming boxes connected directly to the Sony TV's true 4K HDMI ports to avoid using HT-A9 as a switching device for HDMI. All HDMI cables are Monoprice 8K Certified Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable - HDMI 2.1, 8K@60Hz, 48Gbps.
All my Sony TV's have Shield Pro. Decided to test out the new ATV 2022. Sony's were calibrated with the best color optimization and performance set to Vivid, not Dolby Light. All the info you have read about Dolby Vision, TrueHD and passthrough in the Shield is accurate. Shield is setup for DV. ATV is HDR10+ as per their specs so this was set to 4K HDR@60Hz, no match content, no match frame speed. When I did this on the ATV, it automatically identified it as Dolby Vision, however, its not true DV. I also did the HDMI connection test and it passed. A wired connection to each box was used.
Each box was lined up side by side connected to a HDMI true 4K port.
The colors and clarity and detail were way better on the Shield from 4 different set of eyes. However, when I switched the ATV to 4K SDR@60hz, it came close to the NVidia, but not close enough.
This link was from Apple was followed to achieve the best output https://support.apple.c
I tested the usual suspects of apps that supported Dolby Vision profiles and the NVidia was more pleasing to the eye for sharpness, sound and resolution.
The ATV remote is built solid but no backlight like the Shield remote which is huge for me.
The fact that the Shield is not locked down for apps is another huge plus.
The UI on ATV is great, however, I can get the same using this hack and works like a charm and looks just like the ATV UI https://www.reddit.com/r/ShieldAn...me_w
No USB ports on ATV but I assume having 128GB of storage, there is no reason for a USB port where the Shield comes with 2 USB 3 ports if I needed to expand my storage.

I notice the jerk-offs at Nvidia removed the ability to play YouTube at 1.5x, 2.0x on my older 2017 Shield. It is still there (for now) on 2019 Shield Pro. Why don't the dipshitz offer the 1.75x speed?
Apple 4K no USB = NO SALE. I will not buy a media player that does not have USB ports.
I'm ticked off at Nvidia for taking away ability to speed up YouTube videos on my older player, so I guess as retribution I will not buy another of their more recent 2019 version, even though I would like to have a third player.
For $125, sure, I'll buy another one. For $175? Nah, not when the bozos take away features on my older device.

I'm going to resist buying another one of these for our last TV (we have 2 x 2019 shield pros already) in hopes they actually upgrade it this upcoming year and then I can feel good about buying it
