I ended up getting a feather bed for it and frankly, it was actually a very comfortable setup for me.
But for $8, this seems like a fairly good way to go.
Concur. I had the same experience when I slept as a guest at a relatives house.... comfy, but the aerobed was a heat sink. Picked one of these up for my own guest bed so nobody has to go thru that.
$35 free ship threshold wasn't that hard to achieve - my cats always need cat food and WM's Sheba is priced the same every day as an earlier Amazon FP deal here.

I wouldn't even call this a matress pad. It's a thick bed sheet that has a "thicker" microfiber "top".
I can see it getting hot on a regular mattress. I believe it's by design as air mattresses tend to get ultra cold.
As far as my personal health concerns, I put a couple layers of old well-worn well-washed bedding atop my 'synthetic' mattress top(pers) before my cotton bedsheets.
The other way to address the concern of potentially harmful antimicrobial agents:
Research the precise method/chemical(s) used, and then 'dose' your wash with an appropriate solvent, surfactant, etc. If you need something harsh*, handwash outside (using a minimal amount of the 'wash aid'*), rinse thoroughly, air dry (outside), then machinewash by itself.
Good luck if you want 'elastic'-anything; maybe, you're lucky and not allergic to latex.
