for example, if you don't have a motherboard and you're building a new rig, you should buy B550/570 and a 5600/5600x/5700x
But if you already have a 350/450 board, this is an excellent value upgrade from say a 1600 or 2600 or 2400g/3400g
If you are rocking a 3600/3600x or faster chip this isn't worth the upgrade.

Any AM4 boards would work. If you're not going high end, fancy itx sff. One thing is bios support.
MSI Pro B550M-VC Wi-fi , it's MATX board, but has everything you need, i'm getting 600+mbps on the wi-fi 6e built in and has a pretty simple BIOS. No BIOS update needed, runs 5000 AMD cpus right off the bat. $109 on Amazon.

When I first benchmarked my Ryzen 5600 it lost to the 5600g in cinebench r23 until I did some messing around in the bios so yeah it's definitely a great CPU, especially at this price point

Upgrading from an i5-2500K
My use case is a NAS. I want those 8 Sata ports baby. Plus 4 full size PCIE slots. thats amazing for a micro ATX.
there is a plex docker container that will use the radeon IGPU for transcoding too.

The i3-12100 is better for most computing. For file compression, video editing, CAD, or other tasks that can use all cores, the Ryzen is around 6% faster.

for the AMD cpu.
Intel 4cores 8 threads.
AMD 6 cores 12 threads.
If this is a server I value the extra cores to handle more services. performance difference is too small to care when your running a server.
