Public service duty for those who run media servers: unlike the version of this sold at the western digital store these drives can have their spin down (power savings) timer completely turned off with the included WD drive utility. (This is also $10 lass than it was in November)

You probably need 3 of them one for you and one for each of your kids. Seriously if you rip your own movies or something like that but otherwise probably not.

You can download it. It's called WD Drive Utilities. Only works with Easystore drives
Will it work after i shucked and installed it into my NAS? Or would it first have to be plugged in via the USB cable

Do these need the pin mod if shucked
Depends on what you are putting the drive into - my Synology 415+ and 920+ didn't need the pin mod. On windows/Linux/mac, my understanding is yes, you need the pin mod. If you give a little more detail on how you are planning to use it, someone who is also using it that way will be able to better assist.

As was the case with the WD 14TB yesterday, this can also be purchased from EBay (seller: Best Buy).

It is the same price ($269.99) on EBay but may be a better option for those with EBay Bucks or other available forms of an EBay discount.

Here's the direct link:

There can be some variation, but these are usually white label equivalents to WD Reds. I.e Helium filled 5400rpm CMR drives

That program is for USB/External use of the hdd. I don't think if you shuck it, you'd have to worry about it sleeping.

If you have to ask, then probably not.

Not being condescending, but truthful.
