Typically (historically) the drives in the easystore are rate limited to 5400 rpm by the firmware even if their enterprise equivalents are 7200 rpm.

I prefer 5400 rpm. Less noise and heat. Still plenty fast to max out a 1 gbit LAN connection.

I thought they still spun at 7200 as measured acoustically. I would love to get 5400 rpm quiet drive. 7200 is absurdly noisy and unnecessary for just playing back media from server.

Can't confirm with 100% certainty as they do change up the drive models over time.

We'd need someone to shuck and confirm with more recent drives.

I've seen threads on Reddit where people have confirmed 5400 rpm on 7200 rpm models.

Agree. Seagates are the worst. I have owned many of them in the past and majority of them already went bad. I get clicking noise and Windows wouldn't recognize it. I always avoid Seagate.

I purchased the 18TB MYbook that was posted here many months back. It was my first 'shuck', and went off without a hitch. Any reason not to get this "Easystore" model? I had read something about taping over a pin when shucking, but I didn't have to do that for the "MyBook.' Do we have to do that for these "Easystore" models? Thanks for any guidance!

It depends on your PSU and the type of cable you use. Also, if you do end up having to do the tape mod, it's super easy with an X-acto knife and some kapton tape. I've done it to several of these drives.

Really had to talk myself out of this as it's a fantastic price but I still have >20TB free on my server.
