FYI, I have a 980 pro 2tb in my new build. It's great but it runs really hot. It would sit idle in the 50's and even basic stuff was putting into the 70's and low 80's Celsius. I use it for my main OS drive (I know, overkill). Anyways, the motherboard included 'heat sink' bar built into it wasn't helping. Removed that and added my own heat sink kit.
Used this, looks great and lowered the temps. It never goes above 45 even under prolonged cpu benchmarking.

Acidalie M.2 SSD heatsink with Double Layer Aluminum and 4 Copper Heat Pipes Cooler for M.2 SSD 2230/2242/2260/2280 https://a.co/d/gvyhTb3

I replaced the thermal pads with thermal grizzly minus 8. I used a 1mm and .5mm half and half sized on the 980. This is because of you look at the ssd from an angle, the controller and other modules on it are actually not all at the same height, meaning using just one sized pad for the whole thing won't make good contact and compression.
Great video on this issue and how to address it, should you feel so inclined.

Obviously this is all a bit overkill, but I enjoy this kind of tinkering and it was a lot of fun to see the temps improve so much. Enjoy!
I have the 980 Pro 500 GB. If I knew then what I know now, I would have gotten something cheaper. Right now, Newegg and B&H have the Intel 670p 2TB for $80. If your most stressful storage application is PC gaming, you don't need to shell out for a top-of-the-line PCIe Gen4 drive. Just look at real world benchmarks, instead of synthetic tests, the performance difference between the 980 Pro and most other drives is pretty small.
Make sure the firmware is up to date with Samsung Magician Smilie Good deal, thanks OP!

Gr8 price. I bought this last year for my ps5. Added a heatsink from amazon. Replaced the WD 850 1tb I had prior. Works gr8. Prices are really falling.

$150? shit samsung have to do much better than that to attract the mass market to get rid of that huge inventory. When most others are selling at $80-$100, this thing should be cost around $100 range.

cause you don't know what you're doing with air flow and case pressure

Don't be salty. You assume a lot. Air flow is just fine and I have positive pressure np. Plenty of fans. Obviously it would cycle more air with panels off, but when I tested this the improvements in temps were within error. So panels on are not an issue in the least bit if you are half intelligent with your fans.

1. Is MLC and DRAM synonymous?

2. Can you please suggest 2tb nvme with DRAM $100-111?

I returned this and bought the SN850X so I say yes.

My reasoning is that I keep my PC's for a long time and the SN850X has a higher MTBF.

So basically it's a corrupted firmware and nothing hardware-related and updating the firmware brings it back to normal? Amy I understanding this correctly?
