I was early adopter of dashcam. Owned a few 1080P dashcam and moved on to A119 and now I have A129 Pro.

Here are a few things I would want if I were on the market.

1. In most accidents, if someone hit you from behind, it's their fault. so At least one channel is required. ALL parking mode dashcams require hard wiring. you would need to wire your car at fuse box. and connect the ground cable to body, one power wire to ACC ( accessory. only power on while the car is on) another cable to constant power. Wiring this is not a rocket science, but the wire tap has + side and - side. so it can be confusing. If you want the parking mode and going to hardwire a dashcam, I would just get 2 ch dashcam for all your trouble.

2. Night mode sensor performance varies. Sony sensors are apparently the best. Even with my 4k dashcam, the license place is hard to read. I think what is important is you can record the general shape. Did the car cut your lane with no blinker? this the car in front of you back in to your car? did they ran the red light? which can be done with any dashcam ( any cam is better than no cam). but I would want at least 2k front. 4k is overkill.

3. Super important. Dashcam... you would need to insert a microSD Card. and the data is constantly overide and the card is being used. the old data will be wipped and over written with new data. The SD card will eventually fail and stop recording. if you don't know sd card failed, you might get accident 4 months later ... and you will be mad. MY A119 the old model has a chime sensor. when Sandisk failed, ( after 5 year use ) it started beeping every 3 seconds. so I ordered new sd card ( now I only use Samsung SD CARD. high endurance model) and I'm back in business.

4. Stupid point but important.
I had dashcam with suction mount and it eventually fall while driving in hot day. This A119 use 3M red stuff sticky tape. it's not going anywhere. my a119s never failed me or fall on me. I would only get Sticky tape mount. I do not trust suction cup mount.

5. Built in screen. some dashcam does not have built in screen, my friend's BlackVue models are expensive... but I want to check once in a while. I like models like Viofo that lets me know it's recording.

I can't comment on Garmin, but I have been happy with my Viofo.

If you just want to cover the basics
get his A119 with GPS and Speed Sensor. Get a Samsung High Endurance MicroSD card use the cigarette lighter socket. wiring is long enough to route around the trims. and give you clean install. the dashcam unit is only a size of cigarette box.

IF you want to do the hardwire install for parking mode'
Get something like Viofo A129 pro 2k front and 1080p back. I have A129 4k front and 1080p back.

Get a hardwiring kit. Youtube has tons of videos on how to hardwire dashcams properly.
hard wirekit is typically less than $20. figuring out which fuse to tap is hard.. and find the polarity of the fuse socket is the hard part... but once you understand it should not take more than 1 hour.

the rear camera need to be wired to the front of the car ( connect to the dashcam ) make sure the wire is not pressured by any trims or safety points like seat belt. there are wires in the cable and you do not want to creat a short or cross wiring by pressure.

This is its normal sale price. I've been watching this for months and it fluctuates from a lightning deal to a 33% off deal to a coupon deal to normal price. If you wait about a month it'll be back at this price again just in a different way.

I'm waiting for it to hit lower and patiently waiting past all these "sale prices"
For what it's worth, I have had the Viofo A119 V1 ever since late 2016/early 2017. So it has been 6 to 7 years and have not had any issues whatsoever. I live in Colorado, so it has gone through extreme heat, cold, etc. No issues. My family has had the V3 for about over a year now and they too have zero issues. The picture quality is very good and can read license plates from a good distance away.

So anyone who is skeptical about this brand need not worry about reliability, etc.

Maybe his 12v socket is always powered.
In some cars the 12v sockets are tied to a fuse that has 2 possible spots in the fuse box. One spot makes it always powered. Be sure to double check that in your owners manual or the fuse box!

My last Viofo, I don't remember the model, but it lasted about 4 years. For a Chinese product that bakes in the sun all day, I can complain about that. I've used other cams that only lasted a year. These are simple to mount, formatting the sd card is simple, and it's got capacitors, not a battery. Get a high endurance SD card.

I think I started following this camera after Vortex Radar (YouTube) recommended it but this price is nothing new and you can almost always find them on ebay for around $80. If it drops into the 60's I would probably go for it. He now recommends the Viofo A119 Mini over this BTW.

I used HK3 hardwiring kit, but the wiring kit need separate fuse tap.

For my Honda I needed to buy micro fuse kit to tap.

there are other hard wiring kit on Amazon that include fuse tap.

All you need is Mini USB hard wiring kit. I would pick a kit that comes with variable voltage cut off point.

Thanks for the head's up. Based on your advice, I'll order this instead.

Can anyone recommend a relatively inexpensive, good dashcam that uses a suction-cup mount?

I currently have an Anker ROAV C2 Pro, which I'm happy with, for the most part, but, the standby battery life is terrible and probably doesn't even work, most of the time, and part of the plastic mount on it recently broke, so I'm looking for a replacement. I was able to use super glue and temporarily fix the mount, enough so that it works, but it's not as stable as it used to be and I'm worried about it breaking again.

So, if anybody would like to recommend a dash cam that uses a suction cup mount, I would really appreciate it. Especially, one that is available for under $100, even if I need to buy a used one. And, I'd like to try to find one that also records the inside of the vehicle.

In-cabin? Not for a hundred bucks. And suction cup units are mostly garbage. Even if you found a half-decent one, the mount will introduce vibration in the video.

This is why I use front/rear units. Front-facing units won't show anything if you get rear-ended. Happened to me 3 times.

It will still show what state your vehicle was in before crash. And most rear ending will result as their faults. No?

Thing that I am concerned about is parked car with an idiot driver decides to do a hard U turn or " Left to the drive way as she put it" without any signals or indications. Anyways, she had me totaled perfectly running 14 years old car, an attorney, "fees" for the tickets, probably slight increase in future insurance premiums and a brand new commuter car payments for years to come.

You will be left holding the bag if hit by a hit-and-run driver. Like what happened to me. The only reason she was caught is that she was drunk and ran into some trees down the road.
