But before you go ahead and rip apart your whole laptop, This is what I currently have done to my G14:
1. Disabled CPU boosting on power and battery. Makes system run cooler and in some cases can actually improve performance (because you avoid thermal throttling). Some people think they disabled boosting, but don't realize that they have to do it for every power profile. If you're in silent mode, you won't see performance or turbo profiles in power setting, put your system in performance mode, then you will see performance profile, disable boosting, then put your system in turbo mode, you will see a turbo profile now instead of performance, disable boosting again. Do the same for silent and balanced too, for both, battery and power.
2. Made fan curves more aggressive. I don't care about noise, I use nice over the head headphones when I game and I don't hear anything. So my fans ramp up pretty aggressively and start blasting all that hot air out of exhaust ports as much as they can. You have to switch to manual profile which uses the same profile as turbo but lets you tweak fan and power. My cpu fan curve starts off pretty low then at 65c I'm blasting at 65%, 70c at 80%, and at 80c at 100% fan speed. You need fans to move all that air to get hot air out and cool air in, otherwise it's an oven inside. Some people may not realize but cpu and gpu fan curves are separate in manual profile, for gpu fan curve, click on gpu under where it says "manual mode 1" My cpu and gpu fans are set the same. Don't forget to click checkmark to apply settings once you're done tweaking.
3. Some people report huge drops in temps just by cutting down a bit on power. One of the more popular settings is to set APU to 30 watts and Platform to 90 watts in manual mode. It's going to be game dependent, but you sacrifice about 5 fps in some games in exchange for running 15 degrees cooler. I would do this as a last resort. I suspect people who see such dramatic improvement without much of a frame rate loss are probably the ones with bad paste jobs and faulty fans. Their system is probably thermal throttling the whole time at full power. That said, I'm currently experimenting with 45/100 settings just to see if there's any noticeable fps/temp difference but it's too early to tell, I need to run some benchmarks. Again, after you tweak power settings, don't forget to click on check mark to apply them.
4. I haven't gotten around to it yet, but there's a user app called G-Helper that is supposed to replace Armory Crate. It runs very light, without much of a bloat, is said to improve thermals and conserve battery power. I've been meaning to check it out but just haven't gotten around to it yet since I've been pretty satisfied with the way my system runs. https://www.reddit.com/r/Zephyrus...out_
It seems to be universally praised by other reddit users.
EDIT: Some more stuff I forgot
To disable CPU boosting https://www.reddit.com/r/Zephyrus..._boo
Again remember you need to keep on switching profiles in armory crate to have them show up in windows power settings. Go through all of them in armory crate. If you're on silent you're not going to see Turbo or Performance. So you think you disabled boosting, but when you go to switch to turbo/manual in armory crate to play the game, boosting comes back because a whole new profile gets activated that you didn't see before.
Also, make sure you're playing in Ultimate mode (in armory crate). This is a mux switch that finally got added to 2022 g14. It turns off integrated GPU and routes the signal from dedicated GPU directly to display. If you're not playing in Ultimate mode, you're sacrificing about 10% of performance because your dGPU is sending frame information to IGPU and IGPU finally outputs it to the screen. So not only your games run worse and latency is higher, but also your laptop is running hotter because you're running 2 GPUs to play the game.
And finally, here's some quick preliminary tests playing with power setting in manual mode. Everything I outlined before active except I bumped up the fans to kick to 100% at 75c instead of 80c for both, CPU and GPU. I ran benchmarks in Borderlands 3, the game I'm currently playing. All benchmarks ran at native resolution 2560x1600, with vsync on, mux switch on (ultimate mode in armory crate) and on medium graphics quality. I would say my room is about 65 degrees, definitely on cooler side.
Full Power
80/115 91FPS, CPU 85C, GPU 85C
45/100 88FPS, CPU 79C, GPU 79C
30/90 85FPS, CPU 75C, GPU 75C
at 30/90, there's 6FPS penalty, but you get a drop of 20C combined between CPU and dGPU. This is not scorching hot at all. Q, W, and A felt cool to the touch, E,R,S,D,F,Z,X,C felt warm but not hot.
I think I'll keep on running at 45/100. Just below full power. My keys just don't get that hot at 100% fan speed at the moment. Will see how it's gonna go once hot summer weather kicks in, maybe I'll bring the power down a bit then.
