The Steam Deck track pads are awesome in windows. Although, the narrower total package will be nice.
The ally has a standard resolution, the SD 800p can make some games weird... Hopefully the Ally is a true landscape display as that also can cause some headache on the SD.
Performance is a huge plus for when you want it but I'm also a little concerned with the efficiency at low TDP. I intentionally set my SD to 30 to 40 FPS max to try and squeeze the most life out of it. It will be great to have the ability to do 60+ FPS but if I want to reduce it so I can get more it's going to be a let down if this is as inefficient as a couple reviews indicate at low wattage.
That proprietary pcie/USB port is a real bummer, why couldn't they just make some m.2 pcie port that's meant for USB like use! The future is almost now, that new laptop/handheld (win gpd I think) has one and it looks sweet!
Running windows is a huge plus, I don't care what anyone tells you... Steam os is awesome for the games that just work.... For the rest (like 1/2 to 2/3 of my catalog) a bunch of BS workarounds that hopefully work. Windows on the other hand runs great! Run steam in beta or big picture and add all your non steam games manually. You get pretty much the steam deck but every game works. Plus everyone has to have more epic games than steam games at this point. My back log of free Epic games is nuts.
Yep, I'm convinced...I totally need this
Quote from Digitaltrend here:
"It's a bit like closing the lid on a laptop while playing a game. It should go to sleep, but unless you get in and tweak your power settings, it's hard to know what sleep state the device is in. They aren't consistent either. Several times when using the ROG Ally, I would press the power button to sleep it, only to get caught in a loop of the Windows lock screen popping up, draining the battery."
PCmag here
"The Ally, again, will experience games just like a laptop would—you can lock or sleep the device, but the game is just minimized; it's not as reliable or smooth as the "hard pause" sleep and suspend game features in SteamOS. Everyone knows why few people just turn their PCs off with the games still running. I did try this on the Ally: the device turned the screen off and didn't crash when I signed back in, but the game isn't really suspended (and will likely chew the battery as a result)."
To test if this is possible, I've loaded up a number of games, started playing and then hit the hibernate button (which I setup as my power button). The laptop powered down with no battery drain. I then wake the computer and I'm instantly in the game right where I was.
Just thought I would let people know

This might be good after a while but I remember 10 years ago when everyone tried to create "steam machines" with all of these windows profiles that worked more like a console, and maybe Alienware had the only half-usable one.
Although I'd love to be able to play games like PUBG with higher settings. I pre-ordered but will wait and see if it lives up to the hype
