If you have the Best Buy credit card, use code APR24EMOB25 for 10% off, $630 isn't too bad.

This one (Z1 Extreme) is the one to get. Don't get me wrong, the base Z1 seems superb compared to Steam Deck's comparable 512GB version, but damn, the Z1 Extreme is hitting 1080p/120fps in games like Forza and 60fps in RDR2, craziness.

Usually the first batch of YouTube reviews would tend to praise a product at launch as those are from privileged reviewers who receive a free unit from the marketing department of a vendor. I'm waiting for real end user reviews to see if I'd get one myself or invest in upgrading the 64GB SSD on my Steam Deck. If the Ally had a touchpad and ran Steam OS it would be closer to a perfect handheld gaming device, though today's battery tech would still cause concerns to some but it's the same issue no matter which device you pick.

I do too or atleast have my charger near by bc I'm usually playing Apex and will inevitably have to grab the charger at some point throughout the session
Exactly. I often play The Division 2 or New World on my Deck, and those games, even capped at 40Hz chew through the battery since they are online.

Am I missing something? When Steam Deck was announced it seemed like a really cool concept but I just stuck with my OG Switch which is still a delight to travel with and play. I get it doesn't have every game but for 95% of people it seems far superior to these extremely expensive and gimmicky portable PCs. I truly want someone to explain to me why I'd buy this over a switch?
Simple...Switch is very weak. Handheld PCs can run a range of emulators- I play switch games on my deck even. I cannot play AAA games like VIIR on my switch...nor KH3. Many games simply don't exist on the switch.

Why is this frontpage? Full price for a pre-order. What a "slick" deal.

How upgradeable is this? Is it able to be docked and play games with keyboard? How future proof?

Very interested in upcoming or existing shooters like CS2, COD and also Hogwarts legacy.

Thx

Yeah I get that argument but why would you even want to play a AAA game on a tiny screen in handheld mode when the battery life will be terrible too given the graphics needs of said game? Some people also talking about playing their SD plugged into too??? What is this, 1995?

I am also selling my Steamdeck for this. Preordered this morning. Will be happy to not have to use hacks and have a crap windows experience like I did with Steamdeck. Also Steamdeck struggles hard even with Lego skywalker games. It's fine until you get to a busy part and it's struggling at 30 fps from smooth 60 fps when not much is going on, . Takes you out very bad. Also yes I did the 4gb bios thing and it's running off internal upgraded 256gb ssd. Windows will be much nicer to have
What 4 gb bios thing

My biggest complain about the Deck is the the loading speed. At least for me playing on Deck means causal play maybe just 15 minutes for a quick campaign. Loading took 1 minute is just too long.

Cloud gaming is much better in term of quick play. Not sure how much better will the Ally be.

I have a PC solely for playing games on TV. Experience sucks big time, partly because windows is garbage and partly because all the game installer that take minutes to load.
It is also not great to have mouse and keyboard just to lunch a game. Console provides much smoother experience.
I'm just saying that's something Microsoft could improve.

There's a reason why Nintendo took the Wii out to the pasture and shot it and came out with the Switch

IGN does a review side by side with the Steam Deck.

That's why you leave the game open, and suspend the system. No different from PSP, 3DS, etc. Cloud gaming means no ownership and games can be removed from the platform. You need fast internet, and the server must be reliable too. No ability to mod the game since it's not local.

Nintendo sells it's hardware 100% based on their software. They have always had lower powered hardware and can get away with it because the world wants to play zelda and mario and will buy whatever it takes to play, Nintendo has nenver marketed their games as using cutting edge tech.

Microsoft could not make that move, as one of their biggest selling points is specs. Replacing the xbox with a lower powered portable device to try and push forza, halo, and gears, would be suicide.

I have never owned Nintendo hardware in my life, and I love Xbox, but this is reality.
