If you have the Best Buy credit card, use code APR24EMOB25 for 10% off, $630 isn't too bad.

This one (Z1 Extreme) is the one to get. Don't get me wrong, the base Z1 seems superb compared to Steam Deck's comparable 512GB version, but damn, the Z1 Extreme is hitting 1080p/120fps in games like Forza and 60fps in RDR2, craziness.

Usually the first batch of YouTube reviews would tend to praise a product at launch as those are from privileged reviewers who receive a free unit from the marketing department of a vendor. I'm waiting for real end user reviews to see if I'd get one myself or invest in upgrading the 64GB SSD on my Steam Deck. If the Ally had a touchpad and ran Steam OS it would be closer to a perfect handheld gaming device, though today's battery tech would still cause concerns to some but it's the same issue no matter which device you pick.

I honestly don't believe its stretching nor a conspiracy. It is well known that reviewers, Youtube or otherwise, lose access when they say too many bad things about products they have received early access to. Sometimes companies will be extra stupid and tell the reviewer they are dropped (see: NVIDIA and Hardware Unboxed). In this case, I don't think ASUS paid Linus, because he's pretty staunch on running a legal business and following disclosure rules about sponsorship. But rather, he has to worry about ASUS not inviting his team to the ROG lounge at CES next year for instance.

My point is basically people should just be aware of the bias. And then there's nothing wrong with any of it.
If the Ally had touch controls like the Steamdeck, I wonder what reviewers would be saying then.

But neither of Switch Lite, PS5 can run the games that I have in my steam and other PC libraries...
Lol he\she is asking for a 400 device, that is faster than the Steamdeck at a lower price... He\she is having pre pandemic pricing dreams.

Thanks for confirming. The frugal person in me says to go with the $399 Deck and sticking with a MicroSDs or going with a large SSD swap out.

However, for me, the peace of mind would be a $529 256gb SSD Deck, but it puts it $70 less than the Z1 Ally. The 512gb Deck is only $70 less than the Z1 Extreme Ally too.

Makes it so hard to get anything but the $399 Deck until the Ally really has good real world reviews or gets cleaned up with all the bugs and clunkiness.
I have had the 64gb SD since release...and have 2 Samsung 256GB mSD cards. Absolutely no issues playing games like Tales of Arise or Nier from the sdcard.

The Z1 Extreme is far superior, however costs more. Certain games don't work correctly on the steam deck and require complicated solutions. Idk how I feel about $700 though...that's gaming desktop/laptop money.

$700 is barely GPU money these days

There's a range of settings at play. ETA Prime says:
1080P Video Playback - 8:20
8 Watt TDP Gaming - 1:43
25 Watt - 1:04
That incorrect check ETA PRIME video again 1:43 is 15 watts

The PCWorld had a pretty interesting hands-on live stream testing of the handheld device vs the Steam Deck. Definitely had mix use case results and not all praises.

Is this like a pure gaming pc if you can hook it up to a tv? By reason, if it's handheld then is it not as powerful as a real PC or console?

Is the $599 one sold out or is it just not available yet?

Does this have an OLED screen?
No, it has a 500-nit max brightness 1080p LCD that can run up to 120Hz refresh rate and supports VRR (variable refresh rate). The VRR support is the first I have heard of in a handheld gaming device, and, to me, is a pretty big deal. Personally, I'd take a very good VRR LED display over an OLED for a gaming handheld.

Not available yet. I believe it won't be available until Q3 of this year.

For only $100 less though, it's really not worth it, IMO.

That dpad not handling straight downward presses without easily registering as a diagonal is making me think twice.

Yup. The way they have handed the frying AMD CPU situation, Gamers Nexus recently labeled them "Scumbag ASUS" and JayzTwoCents said they are no longer working with ASUS as it relates to sponsorships.
