Inside the case, Arris has equipped the SB8200 with a Broadcom BCM3390 chipset (a much needed change from the SB6190's Intel Puma 6 chipset), 3 GB of RAM, 128MiB S34ML01G200TFV00 Spansion flash memory NAND and 16 MiB Macronix MX25L12805D SPI NAND flash memory. The SB8200 should be able to handle downstream bonded channels up to 32 SCQAM or 2 OFDM and upstream bonded channels up to 8 SCQAM or 2 OFDMA.

I've had this modem for about 5 years now... (I think). So yeah, it's pretty old. Still working though so haven't replaced but I'm sure by now there has to be better options?

Old yes, outdated NO. I mean who can go faster than DOCSIS 3.1 unless there are very specific business or specialized needs.

I have had this since about 2 years. Got Used-Like New from Amazon for $70ish and working great so far. No complaints. I am on Xfinity Gigabit Plus tier.

Had mine since January 2018 and it's been rock solid the whole time. I'm using it on RCN/Astound 940Mb service (940Mbps down, 25Mbps up) and I always hit those speeds. I did attach a filtered 120mm fan to the heatsink side to keep it cool as it does run pretty warm. Definitely unnecessary as the other two I bought for my best friend and my sister are both running perfectly fine without modification.

I paid $180 for mine, so $90 is a steal. Just a word of warning, while this is DOCSIS 3.1 compatible for up to 10Gbps services, both WAN ports are gigabit only. If you have access to gig+ speeds over copper, you'll need to enable Link Aggregation (oddly named "LAG") on the modem as well as have a router to support Link Aggregation. Even then, you'd still max out at 2Gbps. Personally, if you are looking at gig+ speeds, you should consider switching to fiber instead.

DOCSIS 3.1 is still the top end standard for residential cable internet. The price on these is probably dropping because of a combination of Internet providers pushing modem/router combo units and fiber slowly creeping into the residential space.

Got the refurbished one from Amazon couple weeks ago for $40s. It looks brand new and was able to activate with Comcast without issue.

Please help me out. Old guy here. I have Spectrum service and our internet connection seems to have a lot of lags. Especially first thing in the morning. Would this can be compatible and would this be an upgrade? Appreciate the help.
