I have this laptop and it's extremely frustrating how badly I want to like it, but can't. It's an extremely nice laptop that I hate using day-to-day.

Confusing statement, probably, until you understand why:

- this is one of the slimmest profile gaming-capable laptops out there in the market. the screen is incredible, things are speedy, and regular use is incredible.
- there are, however, a few experience-breaking flaws.

speakers are extremely soft and underpowered. even at 100% physical and software volumes, it sounds like average speaker volume for any other laptop out there. and because they're underpowered, there's frequent crackles and static, even with regular browsing/streaming.
the laptop cooling system is wonky AF. as other commenters noted, the laptop will ratchet up to burn-your-thighs heat, and then have an epileptic fan attack trying to cool it down even 5 degrees. the support recommendation is to underclock your laptop. let's not even go into how ridiculous that is.
putting your laptop to sleep isn't "possible." the cooling drivers are broken so things don't "sleep" properly. asus' sleep mode is effectively "turn the screen black and change nothing else." if you hear your laptop making sporadic wheezing sounds while it's "asleep" ... that's why.

all in all, for $1000, it's a fine laptop. you'll be able to play most things you want with it, but you'll also be plagued by constantly wondering how it's possible to mess up the simplest things on a laptop.
it's this price almost every other week. i returned it since it overheats while idle.. i was hitting 70C.. folks suggest undervolting or whatver it's called to the point this machine is probably only performing ~70% of its full potential
ASUS quality control is widely known to be absolutely horrendous. I've bought/returned 7 of their gaming laptops over the past 2 years myself, including two of these, so always test the stuff out thoroughly within your return period. For the price it's a great deal, and even though I've had terrible luck with ASUS, I'm still tempted to keep trying. Just know what you're getting into before buying. It's a toaster with a display, but performs great. If you're ok with the heat or don't mind losing a bit of performance by doing the usual tweaks G14 users have done for the past few years to help keep those thermals in check, then you'll most likely enjoy this laptop.

I bought an Open Box - Excellent one during the last sale. Laptop seems really nice, but the one I got had performance issues. No matter what I tried my benchmarks all came in 10-15% below expected.

Tried to exchange at Best Buy for another open box model but they said the system wouldn't allow it since the price had gone up and the sale price was below the system cost. After getting the run around between the store and the 1-888 number I finally gave up and just returned it.

Now that it's on sale again I see the open box prices have all been increased compared to 2 weeks ago.

I have the older one with the 3060, and it's been great for the last 2+ years. I just used the Asus software to create my own custom fan profiles, and most of these heating and throttling issues went away. I wonder if the 3060 runs cooler than the newer AMD one?
They are all about the same from the reviews I've seen and that have been posted in previous threads. The only significant heat differences seem to be the one with at 6800S in it which most reviewers suggest getting a different laptop if you want a 6800S and consider the 6700S a much better fit for this laptop performance wise and issues wise.

I bought this laptop on a whim after enjoying my Steam Deck so much. The laptop is loud AF (fans) when the game is humming but the graphics are great and it's a little speed demon! For me the selling point was that it was a great package deal. Bright screen, great cpu, great gpu, 16gb of memory and 1TB of ssd storage. A lot in this price range have 256gb - 512gb. I bought new from bestbuy when it was $999. Hope this helps someone looking.

My only wish is that it wasn't white.
the vents smell any different from the Deck?

What would you say are the most common quality control problems in asus laptops?

The laptops I had were 2021 & 2022 ASUS M16s, G15s, and G14s. A couple had shoddy hinges that were not lined up correctly and made noise when opening/closing the lid, all of them had crackling speakers when using the silent/power saver profile, 5 of them had display and/or GPU issues that caused the screen to have lots of lines and funky colors all over (I posted pics on Best Buy's reviews), and all kept crashing during ASUS updates. The oddest issue, which effected each 2022 G14 that I had, was if I turned them on while plugged in and charging, the display would come on, but as soon as I unplugged the charger the display would go black. And then issue happened the other way as well. If I turned them on while unplugged, then the display would come on, but when I plugged the charger in it would go black.

I'm sure some of it was software related, but they all had one or more of these issues during the entire return periods when I owned them, so I returned each one. I know I'm not the only one that's had those issues based on threads on Reddit, but yea that's my experience with ASUS over the last couple of years.. Plus, there was the whole liquid metal overflow fiasco with the G15 Strix. I know every company will have their QC issues, but 7 out or 7 for me was enough lol.

Bought this laptop and had to return it next day!!! It's decent but gets so hot easily. I didn't even use for gaming and my fingers were burning smh. I don't recommend what' so ever. I'll rate it around 1.5/5 stars!!

I have this Razer 15 from 4 years ago, the ADVANCED version.. and just received this used from BB but my Razer from 2019 advanced seems faster? Or do you think it's in my head?

I bought one 2 days ago and it was registered to someone else... all it took was a phone call to Asus and they fixed it. The CSr told me that BB open box get 90 days warranty and it does reflect that in my case. if you get a real good deal (I got a ROG M16 from 2021 with i9 11900H and 3060 for 500 bucks!) and you're not comfortable with the warranty, just buy the BB extended warranty. Asus won't sell you one, so it would have to be from BB.

I got mine and returned it the next day. has a hairline crack next the ports and seems to be a regular issue.. they showed me another one that was in "excellent condition" which had a smaller hairline crack. its still a crack i didn't like having.

Isn't it a bit surprising that it's maintaining this price given the next generation of laptops with newer CPUs and newer GPUs are out? Plus all the quality control issues this one seems to have?

Just bought an open box of this and taking it back now. Hair line crack from the corner of the bottom panel into the screw well which is going to totally break over time. Glad you mentioned this since I didn't see that while looking at it in the store.

I just had to return my m16 open box BB one. It's sleek and light but after I set up the laptop. I decided to plug in my external work monitor with USB C charging and try it out. The first port was not in a good spot so I moved it to the other usb C port. The one that has the display symbol. Windows reported some incompatibility so I unplugged it. It went black screen. After a forced shutdown the laptop would no longer charge, turn on or even a hard reset procedure did not wake it up. I believe the mobo is fried. Luckily I had one day left so I took it back to BB. Could I have screwed it up swapping usb c ports?

Personally I would say in your head but the 2 laptops are fairly comparable. In general usage it's not a huge difference. It is more specific situations. Example, over all the Ryzen processor in this is only about 5% faster than the one you have. As the number of cores being used goes up though the Intel one you have starts losing massively to this one with a 20% difference at only 2 cores in use and a 40% difference at 8 cores. The Ryzen also does way better at overclocking which can make those percentages even more noticeable.

On the videocard side of it here's a comparison https://www.notebookcheck.net/GeF...598.0.html
