greenworks customer service and warranty sucks. I had an 80v snow blower. Worked for 10 minutes then spent 1.5 years (not joking) In a repair shop waiting for parts. This was pre COVID. Terrible terrible. I have an 80v battery that wont work now (charge). It's 3 years old so I'm sol. Stay away. Buyer beware etc

No, it comes with two batteries. One to use and one to charge and use after you spend 35-45 minutes doing yard work. Mower is super light weight and has done a good job cutting and doesn't throw rocks.
Throwing rocks is a big deal where I mow. The two battery mowers I've used (Ego 56v), both do a pretty good job of just cutting grass; they have less suction to pick up rocks. The Greenworks is better than the Ego in my opinion.

I've not looked or remember seeing any that use multiple batteries per unit. That's why I felt this is an odd unit. Must be catering to the customers that are already invested into the 24v lineup.
I think once you get above the 24v, you start to get into the ergonomic issues with any hand tool. The weight of the 80v is as much as I want to have for the hand tools I use; 16inch chainsaw and leaf blower.
Any tool that would use 2 batteries would need to be more stationary or provide some kind of balance and demand from current 24v users.
Lawn mowers are pretty commonly used by a large population. So, if they already had lots of people in the 24v lineup; they probably got enough demand from them to put out a lawn mower basically just for them.
40v, via 2x20. If they got a 20 lineup. Sounds like the went 24 instead. The 30s are to meet the 60v lineups via 2x. The 160 is two 80s.
To me it sounded like, let's just make battery options by multipliers and see how many combinations people will buy.
Apparently they must of made the 24v back in the early days of their lineup because that's probably the easiest entry point. Getting a customer into their small hand tools, like drills and such.
Heavy power users, tools or users that already had drills and such, just waited until bigger batteries came along for lawn mowers and such. They knew it would take bigger batteries to properly do a job and not run out of juice on the site very quickly.
After getting a feel for the weight of the bigger batteries; I felt like 80 was my max comfort level. Anything bigger for me, would put to much labor into using the tool, if it required me mostly supporting the machines weight.

Units.... I'm only talking about power stations.
Wish DeWalt made a 60v, got like 10 20v/60v tools but the DeWalt 20v mowers have awful reviews. Hate having multiple different companies batteries but oh well.

Greenworks 2 x 24V (48V) 20"... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08XJNC...b_ap_
Was on sale for 180 then I bought 2x5ah for 160
I have had it since March 2023 and working like a charm.. I precharge batt night before.. Gives me an hour to 1.5 hour charge to mow my 3400 sqft lawn (on turbo) ... Mixed of San Augustin and Bermuda in north Texas..
Only dry grass! BTW it cut grass better than my gas honda mower.
Highly recommended for lawn smaller than 3500sf.
You use batteries in pair to get you 48V power

I've had to replace two items at this point over about 5 years, a battery and a charger. The charger was out of warranty so I just picked up a new one out of pocket.
The battery starting malfunctioning within the warranty period (5AH 80v). This just so happened to be a battery that arrived in very beat up packaging from amazon. In hind sight, I probably should have sent it back when it arrived in such a state as clearly it was thrown around hard in shipping, however it worked out of the box so I just never thought about this again until later.
I realized quickly that greenwork's online support is basically non-existent (multiple e-mails sent to support, never responded to even months later). Calling their support phone line during business hours also sucks, I called the first time about an hour before they closed the lines, was basically hung up on after an hour long hold. I called the next morning right when they were supposed to open, waited on hold for over 2 hours before getting a live agent. That said, once I had an agent on the phone, we walked through a few trouble shooting steps in about 5-10 minutes and then they shipped me a replacement battery for free. Battery arrived within two weeks and has been working fine since.
While I'm still using their tools and happy with the performance, I hope to never need their support assistance again.
Note - Costco has many greenworks 80v items with warranties extended to 8 years. If I was purchasing batteries specifically, I'd get them there for that reason.

Snow throwing is a whole other beast though where I could see electric struggling. Never had the opportunity to try one out.
