There are alternatives that are actually superior to Shield in almost every way now. For example, the Homatics Box R 4k Plus / Dune HD / Nokia 8010 / RockTek G2 devices.

No other player supports Dolby Vision / HDR + TrueHD / DTS / Lossless for my home theatre system. Might just have to bite the bullet again.
Real life example: my wife and I binged through "This Is Us" in 720p on Hulu. We have a 4K OLED, Denon receiver, etc. The AI upscale was so good I didn't even realize it was 720p until we were nearly done with the series.
The biggest flaw to the Nvidia Shield TV Pro, IMO, is how it struggles with Framerate Matching. Lots of other devices do as well including Apple TV, Roku, Fire Stick, etc. but one would think Nvidia would have this down. Yes, I know about the beta Framerate Matching function but it doesn't always work; it can actually crash certain DRM apps (like Youtube TV). There are also apps you can install to help mitigate this but the overall sentiment is that it isn't turnkey.
Btw, you have to turn on the Plex Server the first time you setup Plex on the Shield Pro. The option to check off comes up during setup. Also, external hard drives have to be setup by the Shield Pro, which puts a specific Nvidia Shield Pro folder. Then you can transfer files from your PC over your home network directly into media folders in that specific folder on the hard drives attached to the Shield Pro.
This is my issue right now. I bought Shield Pro about 2 years ago and returned it, and Ii'm still facing the same dilema that I can't find a better alternative media player that has all the same codec support without a ton of really hard to adjust settings. Currently using an Xbox Series X for watching through Kodi + Plex, however I have to go into a secret menu to adjust the HDR settings.
