For what it's worth I bought this same drive last year for ~$165 and that was an excellent price at the time. Prices have dropped been dropping for solid state drives for a while and may continue to drop.
Gen 3 vs Gen 4 doesn't really matter much for an OS drive. Random read/write benchmarks (with QD 4 or less) would be more telling of performance versus the sequential speeds.

Now if you're someone who will be copying over large files on a regular basis (such as for video editing), that's where the Gen 4 speeds will be most beneficial.

Transfers speeds make no real-world difference between the gens, but random speeds tend to be faster on the gen 4s aren't they? Random speeds are what someone might actually notice in real life use when it comes to system responsiveness.
nah noones gonna notice anything..the drives are all too quick. Once you get to 500MB/s read, it's impossible to tell (unless you're moving gigabytes around)

You're mostly right. For the vast majority of users, there will be no noticeable difference between even a SATA SSD and the fastest Gen 5 NVME drive for regular use or gaming. For professional work (video editing, rendering, or loading massive spreadsheets) there will be a pretty substantial difference. Also, there's currently not much of a difference between DDR5 and the fastest DDR4 in things like gaming, that's because DDR5 is in it's infancy. Once the generation matures, much faster RAM will be developed. It's been like that for every previous generation. It's part of the early adopter tax.
Edit: I forgot to mention that once more games implement Direct Storage, there WILL be a noticeable difference between slower SSD's and faster ones. So far, only one game has full Direct Storage support (Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart), but most new games will support it pretty soon.
you know your stuff..
and yea I too have a hard time telling the difference from a Samsung sata ssd and nvme..they're both snappy enough. Of course if you know how to stress the system you'll quickly figure it out, but that's if you get asked to identify the type of drive

Point out what I said that wasn't true.

This is Gen 3 ~3,500MB/s. If your hardware supports it, it'll be fine for the OS (faster than HDDs and SSDs). It's not the latest/greatest/fastest for high-end systems though.

B&H has this for $79.99 with free shipping. Four dollars more, but I know that they will ship the real thing and the right item! https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pr...dLmaNKXR04

there's no reason to state if it's "fine" or not..it's not only fine it's complete overkill for all current operating systems.

just zip it already.

I've been trying to get YOU to zip it. I'm sorry I don't speak according to your rules. That is the most obnoxious argument.

Go outside.
