Solidigm is actually formed by the former Intel SSD team after Intel sold that department to SK Hynix. I imagine the team that worked on the 670p worked on the P41 Plus. The 670p was highly reviewed when it was released and often was recommended even over other TLC drives released before it. The P41 is improved with a newer controller and proprietary drivers, but it shares the same NAND flash and does have a drawback in not having DRAM. Having the same QLC NAND, it has the same limit as the 670p of having its speed plummet after its cache is filled until it recovers, which is more prominent the lower the capacity of the drive.

Looks nice.
But what about Solidigm P41 Plus Series 1TB PCIe that is actually aGEN 4 NVMe 4.0 x4 M.2 as opposed to this Solid State Drive that is Gen 3? One Amazon both are at the same price.
Does anyone have experience with this brand?

I use the 670p in NVME/USB enclosures as it has DRAM. P41 for internal use is better. Windows and the associated NVME driver from the manufacturer can offset the lack of DRAM on internal drives by RAM caching, but can't do it on external drives.

What do you need higher throughput for? It's fantastic for 99% of users and anything faster is usually only perceptible on synthetics.

This is the cheapest available 1TB nmve. I didn't think there was any pretense that this is an "excellent" nmve, but since nmve is so much faster than SATA I think many people will find this a pretty good value.

Having a gen 3 m.2 slot on my mobo is this the best deal to go for? Am I better opting for gen 4 m.2 knowing I won't get the higher speeds unless I upgrade my mobo in the future?

I got the SSK which which was on sale at the time for $16. It does the job and even came with two thermal tapes. It gets warm but not hot.

the Sabrent enclosure in on sale at B&H for $20 after coupon. Works well with this. I have the 1TB 670p in this enclosure and runs well and cool. IMHO best NVMe USB 3.1G2 enclosure out there.
