These are fantastic by the way. At full blast it's quieter than my oscillating fan on medium speed.

Way worth it to be able to return to store and deal with local HD rather than Amazon customer service (good luck).

Literaly just got done installing this thing, and if your window is on the smaller side if the scale it's a huge pita. Where the pin holes in the cross bracket are make it so that it is impossible to actually center on the window. Generarically that wouldn't matter much, but it only gave me about 1.5" of clearance on one side to install the stabilizing arm, whose screw is located 12" from the top.

Also make sure that you have a full 13.5" if clearance in your top to bottom. Forgot about the lip and had to remove some hardware to get it to be tall enough.

Will update shortly on performance.

Definitely not the case for the 12k BTU Midea, but it is nice and quiet if it's at/near temp and just maintaining it. Mine modulates itself between ~550W for max cooling down to about 90W just to gradually maintain temp.
How do you measure that? I thought the units peaked at 10A but 550W would be significantly less. I love my units. Completely changed how my home is in the summer. Two 12K units on the main level and I came down in the morning to a freezing home I had to turn on the heat for a little. And quiet. Went from noisy units that hardly did the job to a quiet home and very comfortable living

I'm interested in the 12k unit. I have a 6 yr old 12k Friedrich Chill (CP12G10B) and the noise level is sometimes too much. How would you describe the noise level of the the 12k Midea?

I bought this unit to replace a traditional window unit in my kid's room.

For what it's worth, the installation for this unit is MUCH more involved than a traditional window unit. Worse yet, the unit is more square shaped, compared to the rectangular shape of traditional window units. Or at least compared to the units I've owned over the years.

I had to take my window apart in order to get this unit seated properly, since my window did not open far enough normally. Took about two hours of work.

And, as for the window "almost closing", there's still a 3-4" gap left at the bottom of the U shape. Don't get me wrong, it's better than a traditional window unit, but I also wouldn't call the window "almost closed".

I'm happy it's installed, but had I known what was involved and the end result, I probably would have just stayed with the old AC I had.

I've seen mine peak up toward 800W on a particularly hot day set at 60f for max cooling.. but typically if I have it maxed, it ranges from 550-580W. Much less as it approaches & maintains a much more reasonable set temperature of say, 68-72f.

Correct - OG Kill-a-watt will do it. Not only will it show voltage/amperage & frequency, it shows wattage which is the direct indicator for power consumption (and will keep track of total kWh used while on).

I got mine like a decade ago for $15, they seem more expensive now. I might suggest the newer "ez" read display version to hopefully not have to get eye-level with the meter some 16" off the ground to read it.

There are probably alternatives now that are a lot more readable with a display that doesn't have restrictive viewing angles though, so I wouldn't necessarily fault someone for trying an "amazon special" alternative. You can probably find some youtuber promoting them to get an idea of how they work, and most of them probably come from the same place nowadays.

Variable. This Midea will work completely differently from older, non-inverter / non-adjustable AC units which likely just kicks off/on at full throttle. This and some other manufacturers' inverter-based window units (and mini-split systems) dial themselves in as needed so they get to be quiet & quite unintrusive if they don't have to push too hard to maintain a set temp - and it sounds that the 8k Midea is even quieter than the 12k I'm used to.

I think it was discussed earlier in this thread, or another recent Midea thread - but there can be an part of the min/max range that can resonate with window/wall causing a kind of pulsating noise like a distant helicopter.. but it likely depends on your window/walls. For me, it's not typically part of the ranges mine usually runs at.

Yes. It's not fun though, you need to be handy enough to make a fill panel for it and anchor the AC & bracket securely so no 'accidents' happen. Not to mention getting it reasonably well sealed up again. This unit is not great for seal but at least I haven't had too much of an issue with bugs getting in.

There's another manufacturer making Inverter window ACs that are just the normal rectangular cut out that would be easier to deal with for horizontal sliders than this.

Nice. I saw that too but didn't think I was eligible in ATX. Do you have to log in to get that? I'm give it a shot
If you are eligible and you already bought the unit without applying the rebate at checkout, there's still a chance of being able to submit it to the utility with proof of purchase, see on their webpage for conditions. You will get the money back just with some extra hassle which may be worth it.

Anyone else not able to process your credit card on this deal? I'm trying to checkout at 9:08pm EST and the cart keeps rejecting all my credit cards which I know are fine (I even called the bank to verify).

UPDATE: Never mind, it was my VPN it didn't like.

Looks like I'm not eligible for oncor being inside Austin Energy area. AE has a rebate too but it's a post-purchase thing. I'm prob try it here soon if there are any left in stock

I used the 12k model last week in 105 degree heat and it sat at 1160 watts consistently for hours trying to cool the place down.

I can tell with the inverter technology it does not spike the power as bad.
