Ordered 2 of the 8k units from Amazon a couple of weeks ago.

It took close to 2 hours to install the first, between my reading the instructions and watching the install video a dozen times... The second install took less than an hour once I was familiar with and confident of the process.

Installing was easy in hindsight.

They do a great job cooling our bedrooms and will serve to ease the load of the central unit, reducing overall power consumption.
You don't want to use the ION feature anyway. This activates an ionizer, which will add a negative charge to small particles, which will fall to the floor instead of remaining suspended in air. Sounds good. But it also generates ozone, a lung irritant that's not healthy to breathe.

I have to say we've had ours for about 4 years now. Just about when they came out. It's a wonderful machine! Just realize yearly you have to deep clean it or it will not work so well. A lot of people don't understand that. We live in the Tampa Bay area and it cools our bedroom down easily! We've got the 8K unit. We've left it installed year-round it's a really easy install. It's really so much better than those old type of air conditioners! It's quiet it's powerful and it's energy efficient!

it's weird because some people say it takes 15 minutes to install and some people have it take 2 hours or more. what makes the install so different you think?

do you feel like you need to drill the window bracket?
The installation process was not
difficult. If you're installing this unit for the first time, I don't think it can be done in 15 minutes. Like some others had mentioned, a step or 2 was ignored for it to be that fast.

I installed mine on the 2nd floor a couple days ago from last week $239 sale. I watched several YouTube videos for this installation. My installation took about 1.5 hours. There were no reason to rush it. If I were to install another one soon, I guess that could be done in 15 minutes.

How realistic is it that the government will get into your wifi or get into your Midea account to turn off your Midea AC during a heatwave? If that ever did happen all you need to do is reset the AC and run it without a wifi connection.

Actually the power company often does exactly this to stop strain in extreme energy use, so pretty likely.

There's a lot of misinformation out there on this. The power company doesn't access your thermostat unless you agreed to let them do it because you got a free smart thermostat or you signed up for an energy plan that gives you lower rates or bill credit for allowing them access. Also, when they control your thermostat, because you agreed to let them do it, it's the central air smart thermostat they have access to. It's NEVER a windows AC connected on wifi. So chances of this happening with a Midea windows AC are non-existent.

No one. It's a myth that the power company will control a windows AC on wifi. It doesn't happen. People are confused because some people have allowed the power company to have access to their central air system thermostat.

I bought my Midea from Walmart REFURBISHED with the Allstate extended warranty. It worked perfectly this summer. YMMV. Install wasn't that hard after watching a couple of youtube vids a few times.
